THEORY BEHIND DEVIANCE SUMMARY Social control theory best describes Ted Bundy's actions. Lacked the four elements that bonded him to society Anti-Social behavior could explain lack of bond to society Sexual desires overcame his Commitment and Belief bond
The best theory to explain Ted Bundy's deviance is the Social Control Theory, because of his antisocial behavior, sexual desire, and poor upbringing. Teds antisocial behavior was a main factor in his unattached behavior, because he did not have any attachment to others. Ted had no family so committing these crimes made it easy to get away with and not have to deal with others disapproval. This separation from society made his deviant acts simple to get away with which is why he had no commitment to others. Ted had no commitment to the law, because he was good at hiding his crimes and his charming personality let many to believe he was innocent. Ted Bundy was involved in school while he was killing, but this involvement was not enough to stop Bundy from committing the most prolific crimes in U.S. history. Ted Bundy was a different type of person who did not feel remorse for manipulating even the most serious of matters such as peoples lives and religion. Ted Bundy struggled a lot with his sexual desire for women which caused him to overcome his little bonds to society to fill his addiction. Ted Bundy also had a poor upbringing that could explain his lack of empathy and remorse for others lives and feelings. When he was a child he had no siblings and technically no mother since she acted as his sister due to custody reasons. This lack of connection to family members could also explain his poor social skills in high school. All in all, Ted Bundy was an incredibly notorious serial killer whose deviance can be explained by his poor upbringing, his antisocial behavior, and his sexual desire.
