Welcome to the Shirley Chisholm Memorial Museum
Speech Shirley Chisholm was an African American Shirley Chisholm was an African American woman who wanted to run for President in 1972…years ahead of Barack Obama! She was the first African-American women to be elected to Congress (the American parliament) This was unheard of in those days. She ran for the democratic party and wanted to be elected as they Presidential candidate. She was not successful but I think she should be remembered because she inspired hundreds of Black people and women and showed them that colour or gender should not stop you from aiming high!
