TECHNICAL THEATRE POSITIONS

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all of a production’s technical aspects. The TD often pitches in on any crew that needs help, including construction, painting, lighting and sound. Many are called upon to design sets or lighting for a production.

SET DESIGNER Responsible for designing the set. Collaborates with the director and interprets the script to visualize the set. Works with set builders to bring vision to life on stage.

LIGHTING DESIGNER The lighting designer, after meeting with the director and set designer, is responsible for designing a light plot, and hanging, focusing and circuiting the lighting design. The lighting designer is responsible for running the board during technical rehearsals and performances.

SOUND DESIGNER The sound designer is responsible for identifying, locating, and taping or producing live all the sounds needed in the production. The sound designer is responsible for running the sound board during technical rehearsals and performances.

PROPS MASTER The props master is responsible for identifying, locating, building, buying, renting, caring for, and returning all set furniture dressings and props needed for a production. Props include set furniture, set dressings, trim props, set props, hand props, personal props, and greens.

COSTUME DESIGNER The costume designer is responsible for identifying, designing, building, buying, renting, caring for, and returning all costumes and accessories needed by the actors in a production

MAKE-UP DESIGNER The make-up designer is responsible for designing the make-up for the actors and assisting them in applying their stage make-up and hair styling for their character.

STAGE MANAGER The stage manager is responsible, along with the director, for supervising the entire production, on stage and backstage. The stage manager is responsible for the show and calling cues during all performances.

HOUSE MANAGER The house manager is responsible for organizing and staffing the box office and organizing the ushers for each performance.

PUBLICIST The publicist is responsible for planning and executing a publicity campaign to promote the production. The publicity agent is responsible for composing press releases and sending it to local and city press and media including online formats
