Science- PROJECT LEAD THE WAY This year, North Elementary will begin an exciting new program called PROJECT LEAD THE WAY. PROJECT LEAD THE WAY unveils the mystery of engineering and biomedical sciences to students and parents and teaches a way of thinking that is the key to success in the 21st century. PROJECT LEAD THE WAY(PLTW) is the nation’s leading STEM program. PLTW’s world-class, activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum and high- quality teacher professional development model, combined with an engaged network of educators and corporate partners, help students develop the skills needed to succeed in our global economy. Project Lead the Way

W hat is STEM Education? STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning model based on real-world applications.

North STEM Philosophy: North Elementary's innovative STEM Infusion program, featuring use of computer and iPad technology, actively engages students in enriched experiences in order to nurture interest, enthusiasm and pursuit of STEM careers. Why is this so important? Already 65 percent of today’s jobs require STEM skills. And this is only the beginning. A STEM education will be essential in the work world of today’s children. We believe that we have a profound responsibility to ensure learning for all students by creating, implementing and supporting innovative STEM curricula across subjects. This will be accomplished using a Project-based learning (PBL) approach. Project-based learning is student centered. In the process of problem solving, students will construct their own learning with selective and strategic guidance from the teacher. PBL involves facilitating carefully designed learning events that require students to develop the skills relevant to the world outside of the classroom.

Daily “Healthy” Snack (peanut Free) The café will no longer be able to provide snacks

Classroom Helpers You can be our Classroom Mom/Dad/Grandma/Guardian/Neighbor/ In-Law…Household Pet. You name it. We’re desperate! … Anyone Interested? Copy Maker Pencil Sharpener Study Trip Chaperone Holiday Helper

Together we will explore the curriculum through inquiry and teamwork for all assigned disciplines. Although we will assess your child for each academic standard, as well as with a citizenship grade, we believe that a student’s true success is measured by their effort and progress. HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
