Be able to demonstrate how to find the slope of an object Be able to demonstrate how to find the slope of a line Demonstrate a clear understanding of how to find slope Be able to identify other real world objects that have a slope Desktop Computer Projector Promethean Board Students will identify objects and structures around their school that have a slope. In groups, they will write a script describing the object and its slope. Then, they will create a video presenting their findings Identify objects with slope outside of the classroom Relate these objects to classroom examples of slope iPad -Camera app Pencil Paper Use Khan Academy to watch videos to learn about finding slope and answer questions about slope. There are a number of videos and questions for this activity. Introduction to Identifying Slope. 1.Each student should select a partner. There should only be groups of two. 2.At least one of you should have a device with a QR reader app. 3.If you do not have a QR reader, download one now from the app store or Google play. 4.Once your group has the QR reader, go to the board and scan one of the codes posted around the room. (There should be three.) 5.Return to your desks as the link from the QR reader opens on your device 6.In your notebook, write a 3 to 4 sentence summary of what you saw. 7.Include your group members’ names on your paper. 8.Once this is done, scan another QR code and complete the activity again. 9.Complete all three available scans This task uses: Smart Device QR Reader QR Code Learning Objective(s): Become familiar with slope. Find the slope of a line Find the slope of vertical and horizontal lines Graph a line using its slope and a point on the line S SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Use QR codes to learn about finding slope.

Learning and Finding Slope via Khan Academy 1.Open the Khan Academy app. 2.Go to the search box and type “Slope.” 3.Click on the first link shown at the top of the search results. 4.Watch the video- it shows you how to find the slope of a line on a graph 5.Once the video is complete, pick the next option to the left of the screen. 6.Continue this part by answering the questions provided by Khan Academy 7.Once the questions have been answered, continue down the selection menu on the left side of the page. Some of them will be videos to watch, others will require you to make decisions and answer questions. 8.This activity is NOT intended as group work, please work independently at your own pace. This task uses: iPad Khan Academy app Learning Objective(s): Find the slope of a line on a graph Identify slope from two ordered pairs Identify slope from an equation in slope intercept form A AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool substitute, with functional improvement Use Khan Academy to learn about finding slope.

Discovering Slope Outside of the Classroom 1.You will split in to groups for this activity. 2.Join a group of three, counting yourself. 3.Each group member will have a job. Your group will pick your jobs 4.Your group will have a speaker, recorder, and leader. Make this selection now. 5.The speaker will be on video, the recorder will write the script with help from the group, and the leader is in charge of keeping the group on task. 6.Your task is to find an object or structure outside of the classroom, on school grounds, that has a slope. 7.When you find your object, you will write a short description(script) explaining why you chose this object, how it is relevant to slope, and tell about one other place outside of school where this object may be found. 8.You will present your finding through video format briefly describing the object or structure and include the information mentioned above in number 7. 9.Once you have completed your script, you will rehearse your presentation in order to record it using the camera(video) app on the iPad 10. Keep in mind, these video will be played for the class so do your best! This task uses: iPad Camera app Pencil Paper Learning Objective(s): Identify objects with slope outside of the classroom Relate these objects to classroom examples of slope M MODIFICATION Technology allows significant Task redesign Create a video in which you discover examples of slope outside of the classroom.

Student Presentation - Slope 1.You will be working with same group you used for the previous slope activity. 2.Using the information you gathered from the “outside the classroom” activity, your group will present the mathematical aspects of slope found with your object. 3.On the Promethean Board, you will draw a diagram of your chosen object or structure. 4.Using the object, you will demonstrate the steepness of a line and identify the slope using rise over run. 5.The Promethean Board can display a coordinate plane that will help demonstrate the steepness of your incline or decline- slope. 6.You may use your information from the previous project to help present your lesson to the class. 7.Please give each group your undivided attention as they present. This task uses: Desktop Computer Projector Promethean Board Learning Objective(s): Be able to demonstrate how to find the slope of an object Be able to demonstrate how to find the slope of a line Demonstrate a clear understanding of how to find slope Be able to identify other real world objects that have a slope R REDEFINITION Technology allows new tasks that Would not be possible without it Use the knowledge gained about identifying slope to demonstrate its aspects to your classmates using a Promethean board.
