Outline  UN-GGIM – Global Expert Group  UN-GGIM: Europe – WG Data integration  GEOSTAT 2

Expert Group on Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information Meet the challenges of managing and integrating geospatial and statistical information at the national, regional and global levels Develop a Statistical-Spatial Framework as a global standard for the integration of statistical and geospatial information. The UNSC and UN-GGIM created the Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information (EG- ISGI) to:

EG ISGI Meetings

1. 1 st Expert Group Meeting 30 Oct. - 1 Nov. 2013, New York.

2 nd Meeting of the Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information 1.Combine the Australian SSF, the GEOSTAT 2 GSPBM (General Statistical Process Business Model) and INEGI’s Geostatistical Framework to prepare a Practical Spatial Statistical Framework. It should apply to the 2020 Round of Censuses. Put forward to the UNSC for discussion and adoption. 2.Recognize that Administrative Areas and Grid Areas are both needed to answer to user needs. 3.Continue the work on a Common Terminology (Eurostat proposal available).

4.Recognition of the EFGS - welcomes the collaboration and contribution to the work of the Expert Group. 5.Further work on how to join statistical and geospatial data. Establish a small working group from the EG and Standards Organizations work on different data models. 2 nd Meeting of the Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information

the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP) ICT Policy Support Programme (PSP) Call 6 Grant EUROPEAN LOCATION FRAMEWORK Swedish Use cases:

the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP) ICT Policy Support Programme (PSP) Call 6 Grant EUROPEAN LOCATION FRAMEWORK Five recommendations: That Member States in Europe support the development of a European Spatial Data Strategy based on comprehensive National Spatial Data Strategies. This includes an obligation to geocode all administrative data records at unit level and to use geospatial information that is already available, rather than creating their own datasets. That Member States initiate a process to increase the number of national authoritative geospatial datasets to better meet stakeholders requirements.

the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP) ICT Policy Support Programme (PSP) Call 6 Grant EUROPEAN LOCATION FRAMEWORK Five recommendations: That Member States consider the requirements of National Statistical Institutes to provide geospatial information for following trends and changes in the environment. That Member States promote the use of geospatial workflows and technology as key to advancing the integration of geospatial and thematic information. That Member States promote the use of geospatial workflows and technology, in particular for the Census 2021.
