10 Background for MCA-III 2010 ELA standards revisions –2010 Minnesota K-12 English Language Arts (ELA) Standards Committee has been formed –Using the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects as a base –The committee will recommend additional standards that address state statutory requirements and best practices in the field of English Language Arts.

11 Background for MCA-III Test Specifications committee’s first meeting is next week. Test Specifications drafting process will continue through fall 2010 Draft Test Specifications will be provided on the MDE site for public feedback Test specifications will be in draft form until the first administration of the test.

12 How can you become involved? Unique professional development opportunity at no cost to districts Teachers learn how tests are built Teachers learn the standards intimately Teachers advise MDE on how items are developed and tests are built Teachers see student performance across the state
