Missed targets for the third year running 'signal teacher recruitment crisis’ The number of teachers leaving the profession has increased by 11% over three years 2 out of 5 teachers are leaving the profession within 3 years The worst recruitment crisis for 36 years Shortage of over 25% in some subjects 1/3 of head teachers will retire in 5 years In 2010 a little over 1 in 4 teachers were men, last year the ratio had dropped to just 1 in 5.
