Welcome to the SAN FRANCISCO FIRE DEPT.
Recruit Training n Fourteen (14) weeks: –State Fire Marshal (SFM) Firefighter One (approx. 416 hrs.) –Medical Training (approx. 56 hrs.) –Drivers Training (approx. 24 hrs.) –Pump & Aerial Operations (approx. 70 hrs.) –Rescue Systems I, Hazardous Materials

n Weekly Testing –Ten (10), each consisting of »Four manipulative evaluations »Fifty (50) question written exam –Final written Exam in the 12th week is a 150 question test. –All testing is cumulative in content
EMS Training n Approved by the State and San Francisco Emergency Medical Service Association n Must pass baseline of tests for local medical certifications n Must pass all practical examinations n n Local EMSA certification exam requirement
Firefighter Requirements: n Passing score on all manipulative examinations is 75% –Fire or EMS »Failing a manipulative will result in deficiencies
Manipulative Evaluations n Deficiency Points: –74% - 72%1 deficiency –71% - 68%2 deficiencies –67% - 64%3 deficiencies –63% - 60%4 deficiencies –59% - BELOW5 deficiencies
Written Test Scoring n Minimum passing score is 75% n points=1 deficiency point n 64 and below=2 deficiency points
Demerits n Relate to conduct and attendance problems n Scale of 1-5 demerits

INSPECTIONS n Every Monday morning, or first work day of the week at the DOT or TI –Personnel inspection –Gear inspection –Shoes cleaned and shined –Male recruits-”shaving” n Random inspections

Quizzes & Evaluations n 10- Written quizzes –50 questions multiple choice n 1 - Final written examination n Manipulative evaluations each week
Weekly Test Scores Weekly Test Scores n Score Sheets will be handed out the Monday after testing at or after 1300 hours. n Recruits who receive deficiencies: –Receive counseling from Recruit Captain
Deficiency Points n 10 deficiencies=counseling by CD3 n 20 deficiencies or more=recommendation to Chief of Department for termination –Supported by documentation from Recruit Lieutenants and Recruit Captain n Based on total Fire/EMS testing
Rules & Regulations n Demerits will be issued for infractions of recruit and department Rules & Regulations n Serious offenses could result in termination from the Department n Cheating during exams and evaluations will result in termination
Reading Assignments n Recruits are responsible for all handouts n Testing can cover all lectures, handouts, videos, manuals and manipulative materials covered –It is “cumulative”
