Chapter Awards Procedures AFSA Manual (AFSAM) 100-5, AFSA Awards and Recognition Programs NOTE: Current manuals are available to download from the HQs website

AFSA Recognition Programs Recognition programs foster morale, esprit de corps, and friendly competition through recognition and incentives within AFSA. Volunteers make our Association work. Recognizing individual members and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the United States, the Total Air Force and AFSA. Take the time to recognize your outstanding performers.

Important Dates The awards competition year, for all AFSA awards, is 1 January - 31 December of the calendar year preceding the award presentation, i.e., 1 Jan 14 – 31 Dec 14 for presentation in calendar year Chapters must establish award submission dates to meet Division’s suspense. Divisions submit their nomination packages to AFSA Headquarters no later than May 1 of the calendar year in which the award is to be presented.

Award Package Submittal Chapter Award nomination packages are submitted to parent Division. Follow AFSAM guidance carefully. Individual/chapter awards require a single nomination transmittal letter. Other submission requirements are outlined in Chap 4, 5 and 6, AFSAM Award Score Sheet outlines requirements for each award. Score sheets are available from the AFSA website under the Resources tab, then Forms.

Membership Recruiting/Retention Incentive Award Programs SKYHigh/HighFLIER/TwinFLIER awards recognize individual achievement. AFSA recognizes those elite members who recruit 100 or more new members, retain 100 or more current members or recruit and retain a combination of 100 or more new and current members*. Top recruiters/retainers will have their names listed in the AFSA magazine and will receive additional special recognition if attending the International Convention. NOTE: TwinFLIERs must achieve a 25/75 minimum combination to achieve this award. Retaining 25 and recruiting 75 would meet this requirement. As would 30/70, 50/50, etc.

The next slides will show sample forms.

AFSA Form 100 AFSA Awards Nomination Form (AFSA Form 100). AFSAM provides detailed instructions on completing this form.

Airman/NCO of the Year Cover Letter NOTE: The Biography and Photo requirement. Ensure your package is complete!

AFSA Awards Submission Matrix The Awards Matrix is a handy checklist to ensure your packages are complete.

Award Process Tips Chapter Presidents or their awards program chairpersons should start collecting useful awards information from the beginning of the year. Keep documentation on every Chapter project throughout the year Write in active voice and make your bullets count with action/result format. Follow the manual guidance, ensure your nominations are formatted correctly. Ensure spelling/punctuation and grammar are correct. Proof read & remember, awards package writing is a “team sport”.

Summary Volunteers “run” our Association—make the time to recognize them! Plan ahead and document often, award package writing is easier when the achievements are already gathered Correct format and on time submission is a must Your DP & AFSA HQs Staff are there to help
