Instructions Taking a photo of ID documents using a smartphone or tablet

Image Quality For quick and efficient processing of a document it is important to submit good quality images. Please be sure that the camera is focused on the correct spot on the image and that you can see the document sharply in the frame of the camera. When using a smartphone or tablet you can adjust the focal point of the camera by simply tapping on the screen once you have aligned the ID document in the frame. Please ensure that you submit an image with a minimum quality of 300dpi. IDchecker accepts images up to a maximum of 2MB in the following formats. JPG/JPEG PDF TIFF

Expiry Date Every identity document features an expiry date. Before you submit your identity document to IDchecker, please check that the identification has not expired. IDchecker cannot approve any submitted documents that are no longer valid.

Taking a photo Please pay attention to the following details while you are taking a photo of your identity document. Please make sure that you hold your smart phone/tablet at good distance from the document. We suggest holding it about 10cm away from the document. Please check that the document is focused and clearly visible on your screen before you take the photo. Please make sure that your fingers are not covering any important information on the document while you are attempting to take the photo.

Passport The security features of a passport exist on both the data page which contains a passport photo and personal details as well as one the page opposite the data page. This opposite page contains the document number and a number of other important security features. Taking a photo of your passport Place the passport on a flat surface for example a desk or table top and hold the passport still with one hand. Take care that your hand is not covering any important information on the document such as the MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) at the bottom of the document. Tap the screen of your smartphone or tablet to focus the image and to take the photo.

Identity Card An ID card consists of a front-side and a back- side. You are required to submit an image of both the front and backside of your ID card for it to be verified. Place the ID Card on a flat surface such as your desk. Tap on the screen of your smartphone or tablet to focus the image. Be sure that you can clearly read the data on the document and then take the photograph. Once you have taken a photo of the front of the ID card please turn the card over and take a photo of the back side. Remember to focus the camera on the image again by tapping the screen of your smartphone or tablet. Front of ID Card Back of ID Card Why do I need to submit a photo of both sides of my ID Card? The front side of the document contains an individuals personal details such as name, date of birth, social security number and the expiry date of the card. The backside of the document contains the MRZ of the document which contains certain security features unique to that document.

Residence Permit Similarly to an ID card, a Residence Permit also consists of both a front-side and a back-side. You are required to submit an image of both the front and back-side of your residence permit for it to be verified. Place the permit on a flat surface. Tap the screen of your smartphone or tablet to focus the image. Be sure that you can clearly read the data on the document before you take the photograph. Once you have taken a photo of the front of the residence permit please turn the card over and take a photo of the back side. Why do I need to submit a photo of both sides of my Residence Permit? The front side of the document contains the individuals personal details such as name, date of birth, social security number and the expiry date of the card. The backside of the document contains the MRZ of the document which contains certain security features unique to that document. As well as a description of any other supplementary documents that may be required such as a right- to-work visa. Front of Residence Permit Back of Residence Permit
