| Course Goal To familiarize content administrators with customizing information displayed in the Luminis Platform

| Course Objectives After completing this course you should be able to: Create and skins that can be used as global defaults or that can be assigned to groups of users Send targeted announcements to groups or the entire campus community Manage group homepages for clubs or other affiliations and interests Publish channels using the channel manager Manage content in delivered channels Work with access groups, filter groups, roles, and permissions Create and manage fragments

| What Makes a Good Channel? Attractive visual design Clusters vs. laundry lists User-oriented vs. org chart categorization “Access” vs. “brain dump” Balance static (reliable) & dynamic (timely) content

| Channel Types Targeted Content Channels – publish a new channel You create these custom channels and populate them with content. Usually delegated to non-technical personnel. Examples: link with teaser, remote HTML reference, and free form text/HTML Channel Manager – “published” channels You need some accompanying channel publishing document….such as an external URL, applet, XML file, RSS feed, or image. Many times, a programmer or more technical personnel is involved. Examples: Applet, Image, Inline Frame, JSP Model II, Portlet, RSS, and XML Default Channels (delivered channels) These are pre-created or channels delivered with the system. To some you can add content (My Courses and Academic Services). Others, for example, are used to send announcements. Examples: Campus Announcements, Bookmarks Plus, Content Selector, and My Calendar

Refine Audience: This option allows you to define criteria for your target audience using standard Boolean operators (AND, NOT, and OR) and elements from the following expression filters: Enrolled Courses, Group Studio, Roles, User Attributesdefine criteria for your target audience

| Targeted Announcements – Deleting Targeted Announcements Announcements can be deleted from the Announcements channels, but not from recipients’ Inboxes.

| Targeted Announcements – Multiple Attribute Targeting and Enhanced Delegation Example: You can send targeted announcements to alumni users over a certain age, to all freshman students, to senior English majors who weren’t also faculty members, and so on.

| Group Studio - Types of users Group Administrators approve groups and assign group privileges, create policies that support the Groups software, and create and manage the categories that organize groups within the application Group Leaders create, approve and maintain the content of the group homepages and guest views, and for managing member profiles to delegate responsibilities or inactivate and delete members Delegated Group Content Manager/Group Leader manage specific group content or overall group leadership Group Members Join groups in which they are interested, participate in message boards and chat rooms, and submit content that they want to see posted on the Group homepage Guests System users who have not joined a group but wish to access a guest view for information or to join a group
