What type of Leader are you? QUIZ

Types of Leaders Autocratic This leadership style is more direct and controlling. People tend to be more orientated towards productivity and goals. Their strength is to get thing done and make quick decisions. Autocratic leaders take authority and go headfirst in solving problems. They like freedom to manage themselves and others. They tend to measure their success by the items of task/activities they get done. Participatory This leadership style requires input form others. People tend to be more concerned about the process of how the decisions are made and that everyone has a voice. Participatory leaders tend to make decisions in a slow, thoughtful process. Generally, these people are good listeners and cooperative. Free Rein. This leadership style is more relaxed and supportive. People who are free rein tend to be your regular old Joe. Details are not much of a concern, because things will get done. They are comfortable with teamwork and group activities

Critical Questions Leaders Should ask….. Are we a group or a team? What is a learning team? How do these teams learn? How do we individually learn as Group B? What are the potential problems without teamwork? Has it been effective?

What is the difference between a group and a team? Groups 4M4Members work on a common goal. 6M6Members are accountable to a manager. 6M6Members do not have clear stable culture and conflict is frequent. 6L6Leadership assigned to a single person. 6M6Members may accomplish goals. Teams 3M3Members are fully committed to common a common goals and mission they developed. 3M3Members are mutually accountable to one another. 3M3Members trust one another and team has a collaborative culture. 3M3Members all share in leadership. 3M3Members achieve synergy. Thompson, L., Aranda, E., & Robbins, S. (2000). Tools for teams -- building effective teams in the workplace. Needham Heights, MA: Pearson/Longman. p6 Our group went through this short list and checked off how we are performing Result: We are a Team

How do Teams Learn? Clutterbuck, David. “How teams learn.” T+D Alexandria 56 March 2002: 67.

How do we learn as a group? We learn best either with one person or in a group. We study best either first thing in the morning or after dinner. We all learn best with a combination of reading, writing, and hearing. We like either absolute quiet or light background noise or music We liked both study short and lengthy periods We liked to think, talk, and write when learning new things We understand new information through pictures, diagrams, maps and writing information down. Anonymous. “Develop an A+ learning style.” Career World 28 Sept. 1999: 20.

Potential problems without working as a team 1.The diverse cultural values of individuals whom work in a team could result in conflict. Without accepting these values in the team continual conflict will be inevitable. 2.The individual members perception of the situation may be different due to expectations within the team. Without clear and consist goals conflict may occur. 3.Different personality types may contribute to conflict. Dislike of a few individuals or favoritism with contribute to potential problems. 4.Competition among individuals in a team may cause potential problems. Each members needs to feel as a equal part of the team and their work is also equally satisfactory. 5.Reactions to failure may also contribute to problems of working as a team.. Not understanding that failure is a part of teamwork as well as success a team may never grow.

Ending Thought “ If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

That’s a TEAM! YOU ARE A LEADER!
