Unit 1 Prayer Lesson 5 Other Ways to Pray

LABYRINTH WALK LABYRINTH – A PATH THAT LEADS ON A CIRCUITOUS PATH TO THE CENTER AND OUT AGAIN. (THIS IS NOT A MAZE.) THERE IS ONLY ONE PATH – THE WAY IN IS THE WAY OUT. THINK OF IT AS A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF YOUR DEEPEST SELF AND BACK OUT INTO THE WORLD WITH A BROADENED UNDERSTANDING OF WHO YOU ARE. PLACES IN LOUISVILLE TO GO: MOUNT ST. FRANCIS ST. PAUL’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH EPIPHANY CATHOLIC CHURCH

How To Walk a Labyrinth!

THE ROSARY THE ROSARY - A FORM OF PRAYER USED ESPECIALLY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NAMED FOR THE STRING OF PRAYER BEADS USED TO COUNT THE COMPONENT PRAYERS. WHO CAN PRAY THE ROSARY???? ANYONE WHO KNOWS SIX EASY PRAYERS CAN PRAY A ROSARY; YOU WILL ALSO WANT TO CONSULT THE MYSTERIES TO MEDITATE UPON AS YOU PRAY. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CATHOLIC.

COME PRAY THE ROSARY

STATIONS OF THE CROSS IN SOME PARISHES, STATIONS ARE CELEBRATED ON GOOD FRIDAY. SOME PUBLIC DISPLAYS AND ARE HELD OUTDOORS THIS CAN BE A VERY MOVING REMEMBRANCE OF CHRIST’S PASSION CONSISTS OF IMAGES BASED ON FOURTEEN EVENTS IN THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST FOUND ON DISPLAY IN MOST CATHOLIC CHURCHES. ALSO THE DEVOTIONAL PRACTICE OF PRIVATE OR COMMUNAL PRAYER USING THESE FOURTEEN STATIONS.

THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS FOR TEENS There is not one particular way of praying the stations of the cross. However, most devotionals have clear instructions on how to pray the Stations. The following is an example of one of the ways one may pray the Stations of the Cross: *After announcing each station, genuflect and say; L. We adore you O Christ and we praise you. R. Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world. *Then you can read a scripture passage connected to this station, followed by a short meditation or reflection on the station. Conclude with a prayer and continue to the next station. (If you are using a booklet, or handout these are often included for you)

 GREAT WAY TO LOOK FOR GOD’S PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE.  ENCOURAGED MORE THAN 400 YEARS AGO BY ST. IGNATIUS LOYOLA  EXAMEN IS A TECHNIQUE OF PRAYERFUL REFLECTIONS ON EVENTS OF THE DAY IN ORDER TO DETECT GOD’S PRESENCE STEPS: 1. BECOME AWARE OF GOD’S PRESENCE 2. REVIEW THE DAY WITH GRATITUDE 3. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EMOTIONS 4. CHOOSE ONE FEATURE OF THE DAY AND PRAY FROM IT 5. LOOK FORWARD TO TOMORROW 5. END THE DAILY EXAMEN WITH THE OUR FATHER St Ignatius of Loyola’s Daily Examen

WHY DOES ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CALL THE LORD’S PRAYER THE “MOST PERFECT OF PRAYERS”? IT TELLS US WHAT TO DESIRE AS WELL AS HOW AND WHEN TO ASK FOR WHAT WE DESIRE.

SPECIAL PRAYER FOR JESUS’ DISCIPLES THE LORD’S PRAYER  THE PREEMINENT CHRISTIAN PRAYER, USED IN ALL THE SACRAMENTS  HAS BEEN CALLED “A SUMMARY OF THE WHOLE GOSPEL”

 OUR FATHER: JESUS INVITES US TO ADDRESS GOD WITH THE INTIMATE TERM ABBA (DADDY)  WHO ART IN HEAVEN: REMINDS US OF GOD’S TRANSCENDENCE  HALLOWED BE THY NAME: RECOGNIZES GOD’S HOLINESS  THY KINGDOM COME: WE PRAY FOR CHRIST’S RETURN AND LIVE, EXPERIENCE, AND WORK FOR THE KINGDOM  THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: TO DO THE FATHER’S WILL IS TO JOIN OUR WILL TO HIS SON’S AND TO PARTICIPATE IN HIS ONGOING WORK OF SALVATION

 GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD: REQUESTING BOTH MATERIAL AND SPIRITUAL GOODS AND BLESSING THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR LIFE  AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US: TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE OUR SINFULNESS AND FORGIVE OTHERS  AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION: WE PRAY FOR THE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME DIFFICULTIES THAT MIGHT STEER US AWAY FROM CHRIST  BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL: WE PRAY THAT GOD WILL PROTECT US FROM SATAN AND EVIL IN THE WORLD

 WHEN WE PRAY THE LORD’S PRAYER WE ARE BRINGING A LETTER OF PETITION TO GOD:  WE GREET GOD;  OFFER PRAISE; AND THEN  ASK FOR WHAT WE NEED  WHEN WE PRAY THE LORD’S PRAYER, WE ARE NOT SO MUCH ASKING FOR WHAT IT WILL PRODUCE, AS WE ARE SEEKING TO MAKE OUR EFFORTS AT DISCIPLESHIP RESONANT WITH GOD’S WORK IN THE WORLD. Remember to Pray Always and in All Ways! PRAY THE LORD'S PRAYER TOGETHER!
