Summary Sixteen people and their families are invited to live in a luxurious apartment building. When the mysterious Mr. Westing is murdered, they find out that they are all heirs. They are invited to the reading of his will and all 16 are supposed nieces and nephews of Mr. Westing. The will says that among those 16 people, is the murder. They must all play The Westing Game to find the murder.

The Crime The crime in the Westing Game: Mr. Westing is murdered and the heirs have to find his killer that is among them!

The Type The Westing Game is a Suspense fiction novel because the clues will mess with their minds. Also, they talk about the character’s traits and emotional states. The characters are very developed and unique.

Suspense There is suspense in this novel because they know the killer is one of them, but they have no idea who. To find who the killer is, they have to use their clues and work together to find out who it was.

Clues Each pair of people is given two clues to help solve the crime. Because the clues are riddles, it makes you think and wonder what they mean, so the reader is kind of part of the book.

The Suspects  The suspects for the murder of Sam Westing are: Sun Lin Hoo, Jake Wexler, Turtle Wexler, Flora Baumbach, Christos Teodorakis, Denton Deere, Alex Mcsouthers, J.J Ford, Grace Wexler, James Hoo, Berthe Crow, Otis Amber, Theo Theodorakis, Angela Wexler, Doug Hoo, and Sydelle Pulaski because they say that 1 of the heirs is the murderer.

The End  When the heirs were called back, they found out that no one won. They then put all their clues together and it made the words to the song America! And the missing letters spelled Berthe Erica Crow. They all thought that she was the killer, but really, she is his ex-wife. When she went to court, she was proved innocent. They find out that Windy Windklopple, Sam Westing, Sandy McSouthers, and Barney Northrup were the same person. Turtle then sees a pattern with the last name. McSouthers, Westing, Northrup. The will said whoever finds the fourth wins. Turtle found Mr. Eastman, who is chairman of the board for Westing Paper Products, and she wins the Westing game. Five years later, he dies along with all his identities. Turtle becomes very successful and rich. Everyone else also is successful.
