What Intelligent Mobility means for the rail industry Richard Jones, Rail Business Director Transport Systems Catapult UK

Show of hands 2 Who knew previously that Transport Systems Catapult existed? Who has visited us before? Who has worked with us on a project?

Agenda 3 So what is a Catapult anyway? What is Intelligent Mobility (IM) and why is it an issue? Transport Systems Catapult – Capabilities

The UK Catapult programme 4

Innovate UK – return on investment 5 Since 2007, Innovate UK has invested £1.5 billion in innovation, matched by a further £1.5 billion in partner and business funding. They have helped more than 5,000 innovative companies in projects estimated to add £7.5 billion to the UK economy and create 35,000 extra new jobs. So: The principle of ‘matched funding’ is very important because it makes sure the private sector investor is fully involved and in position, ready to carry the business forward as the innovation comes to market. Innovate UK selects the markets and innovative ideas to invest in through the Catapult Centres + = £1.5bn Govt funding £1.5bn private investment £7.5bn GDP and 35,000 new jobs ivaeivae

Transport Systems Catapult 6 ‘Drive UK global leadership in intelligent mobility, promoting sustained economic growth and wellbeing, through integrated, efficient and sustainable transport systems’. ‘Create an environment that will make the UK a World Leader in Intelligent Mobility’
