WHAT IS THE MILESTONES END OF COURSE TEST? SECTION 1

ALGEBRA I END OF COURSE TEST Standardized Test Provided by the State Gauges students retention of Algebra 1 Content Calculator and Non Calculator Sections –Non Calculator Sections: students will be required to complete calculations using only paper and pencil Tested over Two Days –Day 1 May 9 th : Section 1 Calculator and Section II Non Calculator –Day 2 May 10 th : Section 1 Calculator

IMPORTANT TESTED TOPICS Equations and Functions are the largest tested topics. Students will be tested on the ability to write equations, identify equations, solve for specific scenarios, identify key characteristics of functions, and explain analyzing functions graphically – just to name some specific important content areas. ITEMS ALLOWED IN TESTING ROOM Students will be provided with a blank sheet of paper and graph paper for scratch work Students will need to bring sharpened #2 pencils Students will be allowed to have a handheld calculator during the calculator section of the test –Acceptable Calculators: TI 83, TI 84, TI 36 X Pro –Not too late to purchase one at Walmart, Target, Staples, Best Buy, etc. This calculator will last your student through college Great investment $110 There will be an online graphing calculator available to your students as well There will be a formula sheet made available online

STUDYING AT SCHOOL

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING A Pre-Test was given to your students at the beginning of the semester to identify how much content knowledge your students already had before learning Algebra 1 The same test will be given at the end of Unit 6 –This time the Diagnostic/Post – Test will determine how much knowledge your student has retained during the semester –Post-Test Scores below 60% suggests the need for attendance during the tutoring sessions after school

AFTER SCHOOL STUDY SESSIONS Session Times: 3:45pm – 5pm Students must stay the whole time All dates are suggest for attendance Need to choose? Look at test grades in synergy, and attend sessions of tests lower than 75% Students will be picked up outside the Freshman Academy

REVIEW GAMES AND MOST MISSED TEST QUESTIONS Students will rework and solve problems that have given them trouble in the past Questions may be presented in review games –Jeopardy –Kahoot –Bingo –Zonk! Questions will also be presented as homework, practice tests, and classwork Students will often work alone first, then in pairs, and then material will be reviewed as a small group

FORMULA QUIZZES There will be a formula sheet provided during the test However, searching for that sheet is time consuming and time is of essence during this test There will be 3 formula quizzes –Each quiz no more than 10 questions –Includes most important, useful, and frequently used formulas in Algebra 1 –Students will retake quizzes until 100% is achieved –Each quiz will be entered in as a quiz grade

This is a standardized test provided by the state, and we as teachers do not have control over percentage or altering grades What calculator does my student need for this test? –TI 84 Graphing Calculator is recommended When are the EOC Algebra 1 study sessions? –Monday through Thursday Afternoon from 3:30 – 5pm –Starting Monday April 25
