Defining Terms  Disability  Accommodations  Barrier Barrier  Access  ADA Law  Interactive Process  Intake  Complaint Gonzaga University seeks to provide equal access for persons with disabilities (students, employees and the public) to all educational programs, employment, activities, events and services which it operates, consistent with applicable Federal and state laws and University policies, including the University’s non-discrimination policy. Reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, and public access will be provided to persons with disabilities to ensure that they are provided an equal opportunity to participate in or benefit from any Gonzaga program, activity, event, or service.

Why we do what we do  Gonzaga University is obligated to provide equal access for all student qualified to be here.  Obligated by our Mission  Obligated by our internal policies and procedures  Obligated by federal law  Protect the university from complaints  Protect students’ civil rights  Tasked with creating the most robust and effective accommodation plan possible.  All of this to remove barriers so that students with disabilities have equal opportunity to succeed.

How we do what we do  Through the interactive process which results in the provision of accommodations.  Through consultation, training, and education  Relationship building and coordination with other campus offices and individuals.  Engaging actively with understanding changes in the law, best practices, current research, and the campus environment.

What we do  Accommodation Process  Collect request for accommodation  Review documentation  Evaluate the environment in question  Research obligation (law) and best practices  Discuss student’s personal narrative  Intake: mutual agreement on accommodation plan  Educate student about specific accommodations in plan  Training about processes, procedures, and technology  Discuss unique effects based on situations  Re-engagement with Interactive Process as situations change  Respond to questions from campus community

What we do continued…  Support of the accommodation process  Communication to campus community and other constituents  Informational, response to queries, and support  Consultation, education, and training  Management of accommodation resources  Liaise and coordinate with 3 rd party vendors.  Coordination with other offices  Resolve Complaints at the lowest level possible.

What we do continued… (again)  Ongoing daily activities to make the accommodation process happen  Management of work studies and other human resources  Management of date, databases, and physical records  Procurement, provision, and implementation of equipment, software, assistive technology.  Production and delivery of alternate media (captioned videos) and alternate formats (Braille, etext, etc.)  Creation of educational materials
