Objectives To provide feedback from the AS Award 2011 To inform Centres of the new AS Assessment Arrangements To update the AS Student Guide To agree marks for the exemplar materials To provide feed back on AS Examination Outcomes

Moderation  Overview of Moderation  Centre sends in sample requested  Centres are allocated to a Moderator  Moderator will sub sample each centre  (N/2) + 1 including top and bottom  If sub sample is within tolerance, process finishes  Tolerance is a tool only available to Moderators  If sub sample is not fine, then the whole sample is moderated  Moderator does not change Centre marks, only recommends a change

Moderators Report Data Processing task – Majority use a Database solution Some good examples of Spreadsheet solutions Multi-Media task – Majority use a Web Design solution Centres using Presentation packages are finding it difficult accessing the full mark range

Moderators Report Submission of Work to CCEA Data processing task should be submitted in hard copy format using a suitable folder in clearly indicated sections/subsections as indicated in the specification Multi-media task should be submitted electronically- one DVD per Centre All Candidates on one DVD Candidate folder should also include an electronic Storyboard and Evaluation

 Each Candidate folder is labelled with Candidate number  Each folder contains clearly labelled documents etc.  Appropriate named WebPages Multi-Media Submission

Moderators Report Majority of centres correctly applied the assessment criteria Good use of internal standardisation in most centres Some Centres made use of the Portfolio Clinic in March 2012 Majority of tasks were appropriate for AS Multi-media solutions are causing concern

Moderators Report Meaningful teacher comments on record sheets are useful to the Moderation team General comments are not helpful Some Centres are “cutting and pasting” assessment indicators, which is not helpful to the Moderation Team Arithmetic errors on Candidate record sheets are still causing concern

Moderators Report Data Processing – Some points to consider  Candidates who were successful were able to clearly state their User Requirements  Candidates need to consider complete list of design components to achieve full marks  Testing results should be clearly cross referenced to test plan  Centres must only apply AS Assessment Criteria to a A2 student who is re-sitting AS Unit 2

AS/A2 Assessment Criteria User Requirements (AS) Candidate produces a complete list of user requirements which will provide a high quality solution to the problem presented. All of the main tasks are detailed and criteria for evaluating the end product has been included Analysis (A2) A detailed coherent analysis has been produced for a demanding problem. Full discussion of information requirements including fact finding. Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of structured analysis techniques in the investigation and effective use of structured analysis tools in specifying the system. Assessment Criteria must be applied at the correct level

Moderators Report Multi-media - Some points to consider  Storyboard – Comprehensive and well presented including navigation  Multi-media – Good range of media and assets, but technical difficulties still exist  Need to ensure solution works on a stand alone basis  This is the responsibility of centres  Evaluation – Appropriate reference to storyboard, suggestions for improvements, limitations considered

Moderators Report Technical problems with Multimedia submissions All solutions in the sample requested for Moderation should be fully tested with a stand alone browser Media assets must be incorporated into the solution

Moderator’s Report  Centres receive a TAC 6 and you can request follow up and support  Need to consider moderator comments:  “…just within tolerance…”  “ …slightly generous in ….”  “…lenient in the higher range of marking..”  “…slightly severe across all assessment criteria…”

Approaches to AS coursework Each Task will be assessed separately. Students can use one information system for both tasks. Tasks can also have different information systems.

If the student selects the task with teacher guidance it may not allow for scope for A2 coursework as there is no real end user. If there is no potential end user within tasks then no scope for A2 as a continuation of AS. Selection of Software is centre based – think of A2 to help make decision Approaches to AS coursework

User Requirements (10 marks) This section should include:  Background information to the task selected  Aims and objectives for the task

Design (18 marks) Design should consist of:  Data structures  Data Checking/validation  Formulae and functions  Queries  Forms and reports  Charts  Macros

Testing (18 Marks) Testing should consist of:  A test plan to include evidence of results for ;  Data entry  Validation methods  Calculations used  Forms and reports  Charts  Macros  Sorting and searching NB. Hard copy evidence of the results required

User Documentation (10 Marks) User guide should consist of:  Brief description of the package;  Hardware and software requirements  Installation of software  Operating instructions  Simple troubleshooting guide

Storyboard (7 marks) This section should include:  A statement outlining the background to their chosen task  An overview of the navigation structure of the package  A simple visual representation of each page in the package.

Page links and Layouts (14 marks)  The package contains at least ten pages connected using links and navigation menus  The package contains links to the storyboard and evaluation

Media and assets (14 marks) The package contains :  at least one graphic  at least one animation  at least one sound  At least one other  Files have been optimised to ensure quick load/runtime. The package makes use of two of :  Tables  Frames  Layers  Templates

Media and assets Better Candidates should be able to create an edit their own assets Other could include one or more of:  Video  Web component(s)  Plug-in  Thumbnails  Picture galleries  Drop down menu  Etc. etc.

User interaction and Data Collection (11 marks)  There is user interaction in the solution  A page collects data for use within the package

Accessibility(7 marks) At least one page provides users with the option to make the website more accessible to suit their needs  Interactive buttons  Appropriate colour  Increase/decrease in font size  Voice over  Thumbnails  Tool tips  Choice of description/language  Language translation

Evaluation(7 Marks)  This is a statement of user requirements achieved with consideration given to original design  Reference to storyboard  Suggestions for improvements  Limitations considered
