Stalk Brings nutrients from the soil to the flower. Holds up the flower.

Sepal Protects the flower when bud is developing.

Pistil The female part of the Flower.

Stigma Where the pollen is collected. (part of pistil)

Style Carries pollen to the ovary (part of pistil)

Ovary Contains the seeds. (part of pistil)

Stamen The male part of the flower.

Anther Contains sacs of pollen. (part of Stamen)

Filament Holds up the anther. (part of Stamen)

Bring a Fresh Flower to Science on Monday. The next few slides are some examples of what to bring.

Do NOT bring a flower that looks like these.

This is the easiest / best flower to use for the Flower Dissection Lab on Monday. Please do NOT pick a flower from someone’s yard unless you have permission. I would suggest bringing the flower in a small plastic container. You can snip it from the stalk just below the Sepal’s.
