LOW COST CARRIERS

DEFINITION The low-cost carrier to be an airline that operates a point-to point network, pays employees below the industry average wage, and offers no frills service. The two most prominent low-cost carriers, JetBlue and Southwest, both have labor costs 30% to 40% lower than the mainline carriers.

AIR DECCAN HISTORY India's first low-cost airline, Air Deccan started service on August 25, IndiaAir Deccan August Deccan Aviation was started in 1997 with one helicopter, it now has a fleet of 10 helicopters and 2 fixed wing aircraft deployed across eight bases at Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Surat, Katra and Colombo Air Deccan our first flight was launched on 23rd August 2003 from Bangalore to Hubli.

Aviation Services The aim of the Aviation division is to assist in maintaining the critical aviation infrastructure in support of economic development. In 2001, AKFED has taken a majority stake in Air Burkina (Ouagadougou) and in 2005 in Compagnie Aérienne du Mali (Bamako). AKFED is in the process to re-fleet these companies and is constantly improving the network of both airlines in the domestic, regional and intercontinental (Paris) field. In November 2007, Air Uganda (Kampala) will start its regional network and thus bring back a locally based airline to Ugandans.
