Some things that help us find true contentment: 3

1. Fear and reverence for God Prov. 19:23 “The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall” 4

2. Trust in God’s presence Ps. 107:8-9 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. 5

Heb. 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. 6

Eccl. 2:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. 7

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 8

Phil. 4:11-12 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 9

3. Trust in God’s promises Acts 27:25 “Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” 10

Phil. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 12

D. When tempted Heb. 2:18 “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour (aid, help) them that are tempted.” 13

E. When facing illness, disease, injury, aging etc. F. When we fear we may be lost we can rest in this wonderful truth: 14

Heb. 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 15

4. Trust in God’s providence Rom. 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” 16

2 Tim. 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 17

5. A relationship with Christ 1 Jn. 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” 18

Conclusion Contentment is not simply a Bible a suggestion – it is a command 19

Col. 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 20

Phil. 4:11-12 (NKJV) Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 21
