Mploy Solutions Coordinate approx. 12,000 student work placements every year Check every placement to ensure suitability – Health & Safety Provide all necessary paperwork Placement Agreement (Contract) Employers Report Form Certificate issued upon completion of placement Ensure students receive an Induction on first day Ensure students get the most out of each placement - Learning outcomes - Enjoyment

Why have a Work Experience Placement? Experience life as an employee – time keeping/travelling Find out more about an industry sector/experience to help make informed choices about future jobs and career pathways Build confidence & take on more responsibility Meet new people – different ages/backgrounds/experiences and expertise Build upon existing and learn new skills – Communication/teamwork/using initiative Saturday/part-time/Summer jobs/Apprenticeships Use for CV’s, job applications, interviews, references Invaluable experience – in an interview, Work Experience can make you stand out from other candidates

Process School provide a list of all students we will be working with – details entered on to our specialist Work Placement Management system Self Placements & Job Book Placements Self Placements - Approaching employers – don’t give up! Phone/letter/ /in person Individual approach/show initiative – Students to contact What is an ‘offer’ of a work placement? Completed and signed Self Placement Form

Process All Self Placements and Job Book Placements are recorded on the Placement Management System All placements are visited by H&S Assessor to check their suitability Risk Assessments to establish any prohibitions and minimise/eliminate any risks that there may be on placements High, Medium and Low Risk Banding Ensure the correct insurance in place – legally classed as an employee during work experience – Employers Liability Insurance Out of Area Placements - Mploy cover the North West and in to North Wales Placements not in these areas, we request the Health & Safety information from organisations similar to ourselves Charge for the information Other considerations - travel/costs/accomodation/overseas

Process Provided with Placement Agreement Form – mini contract which needs to be signed by student, parents, employer Students must make contact with employers before starting placements! Some may require students to have an informal interview – find out more about them and their interests/discuss arrangements Get Placement Agreement signed prior to placement and return to school Detailed process from start to finish - Students, school, parents, Mploy, employers all involved Important to stick to any dates and deadlines set by school SELF PLACEMENT DEADLINE – FRIDAY 18 th MARCH

Preparing – Pre Placement You will be provided with a Job Description which will also detail working hours/breaks/lunch times/dress code etc. but… First day arrangements may be slightly different so make sure you write down and keep any details discussed with your employer Do some research beforehand – remember some key points about your employer Find out exactly where you need to be on the first day – visit beforehand/practice the route/find out how long it will take you to get there Think about public transport times/allow for traffic etc. and aim to arrive approx. 10 minutes early Put your employer’s contact details in your phone - If you are running late/off sick – you must call and let them know

Employer Expectations - During Employers know that you are on Work Experience – don’t expect you to know everything, but they do expect certain things… Legally you are an employee – adhere to the same rules & regulations as everyone else working there E.g. Hard Hat/High Vis/Walkways/Prohibited Areas Be punctual/wear appropriate clothing Introduce yourself to people! Ask questions – you are there to learn Show an interest – if you have finished a set task, ask if there’s anything else you can help with – use initiative Employers are taking the time to offer you a valuable experience – be polite, get involved, say thank you! If at any point you are not happy about something, speak to school

Considerations – Post Placement Write a thank you letter Ask for a reference Write down details of specific tasks undertaken to refer back to for CV/application forms etc. Keep certificate safe
