Increasing prevalence It is estimated there are more than 3million people in the UK living with diabetes. 2.5 million people are diagnosed and by million are expected to have diabetes If current trends continue these numbers will rise to 5 million, or 8% of the population, by 2025 –10% have Type 1 diabetes –90% have Type 2 diabetes Up to 7 million people at high risk

Quality of diabetes care in the South East coast area There are nine care processes which have been identified as essential in high quality care for people with diabetes. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends that all patients age over 12 should have all nine care processes each year.
