Noodles Ramen – consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat- or fish-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as sliced pork, dried seaweed, green onions, and occasionally corn. Soba – thin noodle made from buckwheat flour. Served either chilled with a dipping sauce, or in hot broth as a noodle soup. Udon – thick wheat-flour noodle, usually served hot as noodle soup

Yakisoba Yakisoba are fried or deep fried Chinese style noodles served with vegetables, meat and ginger.

Okonomiyaki Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "what you like", and yaki meaning "grilled" or "cooked”. Batter is made of flour, water or dashi, eggs and shredded cabbage, and usually contains other ingredients such as green onion, meat (generally pork or bacon), octopus, squid, shrimp, vegetables, kimchi, mochi or cheese.

Most okonomiyaki restaurants are grill-it- yourself establishments, where the server produces a bowl of raw ingredients that the customer mixes and grills at tables fitted with teppan, or special hotplates. They may also have a diner-style counter where the cook prepares the dish in front of the customers.

Curry Curry is one of the most popular dishes in Japan. The most common form of is “curry rice”. A wide variety of vegetables and meats are used to make Japanese curry. The basic vegetables are onions, carrots, and potatoes. For the meat, beef, pork, chicken and sometimes duck are the most popular. Katsu-karē is a breaded deep-fried pork cutlet with curry sauce.

Sashimi Sashimi is raw seafood. A large number of fish can be enjoyed raw if they are fresh and prepared correctly. Most types of sashimi are enjoyed with soya sauce and wasabi.

Tempura Tempura is seafood, vegetables, mushrooms and other pieces of food coated with tempura batter and deep fried. Tempura was introduced to Japan by the Portuguese in the 16th century, but has become one of Japan's most famous dishes internationally.

Gyoza Gyoza are dumplings with a filling usually made of minced vegetables and ground meat. Gyoza were introduced to Japan from China. In Japan gyoza are usually prepared by frying them.

Yakitori Yakitori are grilled chicken pieces on skewers. Most parts of the chicken can be used for yakitori.

Etiquette Before eating, Japanese people say "itadakimasu," a polite phrase meaning "I receive this food." This expresses thanks to whoever worked to prepare the food in the meal. After eating, people once again express their thanks for the meal by saying "gochiso sama deshita," which literally means "it was quite a feast."
