Major Physical Features: Himalaya Mountains Gobi Desert Tibetan Plateau (Xizang Plateau) “Ring of Fire”

Factors of SE Asia Highly industrialized even with minimal natural resources= Japan “The Silk Road” & The Great Wall= China Many cities grew up along the Silk Road= Kashbar, Samarkand, Xi’an, Beijing (later) Tents (yurts) & “mobile” homes= Mongolia

Religion in China Confucianism – Teachings based on the Chinese philosopher Confucius. He believed in respect for past and for ones ancestors. He also believed that in an orderly society children should obey their parents. He also stressed the importance of education.

Taoism Based on the teachings of Lao-Tzu. Restoring harmony in the individual and the universe. Buddhism also in China.

Religions in Japan Shinto The word Shinto means “Way of the Gods” Shows great respect for their ancestors.
