The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited Sales Split – Refractories

DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Since the management buy-out of DSF in 2003, there has been a significant amount of investment in plant and equipment. Investment in the 21 st Century Major investment has been made in block cutting and grinding, creating one of the best facilities in Europe. Firing capacity for large blocks has also increased by refurbishing previously mothballed range kilns

DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Significant Investment has also been made in our high firing equipment New modern intermittent kilns have been installed to fire to 1500 o C and 1700 o C, more than doubling our capacity to fire our products to these high temperatures. Investment in the 21 st Century Efficient heat exchangers have been fitted to the kilns to maximise heat recovery.

DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Manufacturing Refractories is energy intensive DSF spend a lot of money on fuel ( £2 – £2.5M) Natural Gas Project In order to reduce our fuel costs and to reduce carbon emissions DSF have embarked on a £2.5M scheme to install a 12km gas pipeline to supply the factory and to convert the kilns to use natural gas Due to our rural location DSF have had no access to natural gas. Our kilns have been fired using fuel oils and LPG.

DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist The high cost of LPG has put DSF at a disadvantage compared to our competitors, who are mainly based in Europe and North America and all use natural gas Natural Gas Project DSF need to pay for the installation of the pipeline, but we cannot own the asset. It must be transferred to National Grid once gas is in it. Using Natural Gas will safeguard our existing jobs and allow us to win new business in the future, securing further employment

We have been successful in winning finance to carry out this project 10% Grant from regional growth fund 90% Loan from growing places fund DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Natural Gas Project The funding has been provided via the D2 N2 LEP This funding could not have been obtained elsewhere

Help has been provided by Derbyshire Dales Council. We would like to thank Heather Bradford & Giles Dann for their support DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Natural Gas Project We were assisted in making our application and have been supported through the process. We have also been pointed in the direction of other grant support with funding towards consultancy and other work

DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist Natural Gas Project The pipeline is now complete and full of gas up to the meters. We are connecting on site this week The kiln conversion process had started before gas was on site, this will now be finished ASAP

As with any business our most important assets are our employees DSF Refractories & Minerals Limited The UK’s Leading Refractory Specialist DSF has been around for 123 years and we plan to be here for a lot longer
