Presentation transcript:

Your good friend enjoys uploading videos to the internet sharing top tips for Minecraft. Yesterday you went to check out his latest post and spotted some mean comments underneath. One user in particular has left comments like: ‘Ha ha your voice is so weird, why are you talking like that?’ and others have also commented on the words he has used. You know this will have upset your friend as he is trying to help others with Minecraft.

Do nothing Tell an adult Write a comment back Something else

You’re researching online for a homework project about your favourite country. You find a website where people can post their own fun facts and share what they think. You see that one person has posted lots of messages saying very horrible things about people from that country. They’re trying to get other people to hate them too.

Tell an adult Report the comments to the website Close the website and never use it again Something else

You’re chatting with friends online and one of the friends shares a joke that makes fun of someone’s religion. Another one of your friends writes back with this message about it: That’s not funny, it really upsets me.

Help your friends to talk it out Block the friend who posted the joke Something else Tell an adult

Tell someone Report it Block the comment or user Look for another site to use Don’t join in or fight back Help your friends to talk to each other Ask someone what they meant Remind your friends that not everyone finds the same things funny Before you say what’s on your mind ask yourself is it kind?

They can help to explain what you have seen They can help you to block or report comments and users If what you saw upset you, they can help make you feel better They can help you to find another website to use next time

Likes and kind posts Be an upstander Report and block hurtful accounts

SAFE Keep your personal information safe MEET Friends made online are strangers; meeting them can be dangerous ACCEPTING Accepting files can be dangerous. If unsure, ask an adult! RELIABLE Not everyone or everything online is reliable or trustworthy TELL Always tell an adult if something online upsets or worries you

If you get stuck on a computer and don’t know what to press and no one is around, what should I do? The best thing to do is close down the application and log off. You can then find someone to talk to. How do I know if somebody I don’t know is pretending to be somebody I know? Before replying or speaking to someone online, check with them in ‘real life’ that it is really them. You should only be talking to people you know online. What should I do if a random message comes up from someone I don’t know? Find a grown up to tell, either your parent or teacher. Never reply or talk to strangers online. Can you send s to people at school? You are able to send e mails to people at school using your school e mail address but you should only be sending e mails about work. What should I do if there is an advert and I can’t get out? You should wait for the cross to appear and close it down. If one does not appear then exit the browser you are using.

On games that you can message people (Clash of Clans, Kingdom Class), what should I do if someone write something rude or uses bad language? First of all show a grown up, they will be able to help you decide what you should do. If it is very rude and offensive you can contact the game makers about the user. You can delete the person from the game you are playing. Remember, you should only be playing with people you know online. If someone you know is using bad language, talk to them. How can you make sure you never get cyber bullied? Unfortunately, if you go online it can happen. It is about how you deal with it that is important. Talk to people about it and share your problems with people who can help. What should I do if I am cyber bullied? If you are being cyber bullied then make sure you talk to someone about it. There are lots of solutions to problems you could encounter online. If someone shows you a picture that is inappropriate, what should I do? Again, show a grown up who will be able to help you. Tell the person who showed you the picture that you are uncomfortable being shown the image, and that it is inappropriate. What should I do with pop ups? Pop ups are adverts that appear on the screen and might try to sell you something. Do not click on them as this is where a lot of viruses start. Just click the X or close down the browser and start again.

Clash of Clans: There are random people on it, is that safe? It is not safe to be playing against random people. Set up worlds or sections where you only invite people you know to play. If someone invites someone you don’t know then delete them or start another game. Is social media ok for me to use? Simply…no. The age limits are set at If I get an inappropriate message should I delete it? Again, the first thing is to tell a grown up. Don’t delete the message straight away as the message may be needed if it is a seriously inappropriate message.
