Periscope App  Owned by Twitter  Location based app  Watch and broadcast live from anywhere  Sending messages with hearts  The more hearts you get the higher they flutter on screen

Vine  6-second videos that play on a loop.  Can also repost videos created by others and leave comments.  Many inappropriate videos  Privacy concerns

Snapchat  Popular app that allows you to send photos, messages, and videos that disappear in seconds. Teens use this app to send private photos, messages, videos that they do not want anyone else to see  No age restrictions. Easy access  Because of the “peek-a-boo” concept it has become increasingly popular with the tweeny and teen population.  Photos disappear between 5-10 seconds.  Because the picture disappears, it is extremely difficult for parents to discover the risky behavior.  Viewers are still able to screen shot and save them “If you show me yours I will show you mine. “

Snapchat Stories  Allows users the option to string together pictures and videos taken throughout the day.  This “slideshow” is public for all Snapchat friends.  Snapchat’s picture/video chain feature only lasts for 24 hours  Because the picture disappears, it is extremely difficult for parents to discover the risky behavior.  Teens use this app to send private photos, messages, videos that they do not want anyone else to see

Tumblr  Cross between a blog and twitter  It's a streaming scrapbook of text, photos and/or videos and audio clips  Users create and follow short blogs, or "tumblelogs,“  Reblogging on Tumblr is similar to re-tweeting  Porn is easy to find  First profile a member creates is public and viewable by anyone on the Internet

YIK YAK  Cross between Twitter and Snapchat  Anonymous posting  Allows anyone to connect and share info without having to know them.  Allows students to post anonymous comments to other users within a 5-to-10-mile radius.  It reveals your location. (unless you toggle location sharing off)

YIK YAK  users to up- or down-vote comments  Popular on high school and college campuses  Concerns: cyberbullying, explicit sexual content, unintended location sharing, and exposure to explicit information about drugs and alcohol.

1 point - for every Yak you upvote or down vote. 2 points for every Yak that you post. 1 point for every upvote you get on Yaks you’ve posted

Secret - Be Curious  You can post content anonymously  Yan also comment on a friend’s post anonymously as you’re given a new profile picture for each  When a friend likes your post it gets shared with their friends and this continues to be shared with other people. SHUT DOWN APP

Whisper  A social "confessional" app  Publish text and receive replies from other people. It also allows you to communicate with others through private messages.  Allows users to post whatever's on their mind. Users type a confession, add a background image, and share it with the Whisper community.  It's intended for users age 17 and older.

Omegle: Talk to Strangers  Randomly connects you to another person on the site  Users get paired up with strangers. That's the whole premise of the app. And there's no registration required.  This is NOT an app for kids and teens. It is filled with people searching for sexual chat. Some prefer to do so live. Others offer links to porn sites.  Language is a big issue. they're often much more explicit also let users filter potential chat partners by shared interests

Hook Up APPS There are many free, available apps to choose from, with no parental consent required. While most are made out to be geared towards adults, the horrible truth is that the creators know that kids are using them Meow Chat Snog- Meet MeMYLOL

Calculator App The “Private Photo (Calculator%)” app is designed to help students hide photos and videos behind an innocent looking calculator app. This application looks like a calculator but entering a passcode opens a private area
