WHAT CAN WE DO? 3. Create a multi-pronged approach to raising awareness on the importance of adequate prenatal care. a) Meet with Rockville High School Health teachers to discuss curriculum expansion. b) Connect with local pharmacies for planned display of informational materials. c) Expand scope and eligibility for community baby showers to include all income levels. d) Enhance use of existing media such as organizational websites and community newspapers. e) Identify and train peer/adult mentors to serve as neighborhood resources. f) Include prenatal care booths and vendors in Vernon Holistic Fair. 1.Additional data collection and analysis on non-adequate prenatal care and low birth weight as they relate to race and ethnicity, age of mother, and mothers level of education. 2. Explore opportunities for expanding home visitation services in Vernon. a) Research Child First (Bridgeport) to assess opportunity for replication locally. b) Assess the possibility of expanding Nurturing Families outreach efforts.
