Presentation transcript:

Amplifier- A device used to boost a line level sound up to a speaker level sound. (Boost= Power= Wattage= Heat.)

Cardioid (uni-directional)- A microphone pick-up pattern that only picks of sound from one direction.

Digital- Opposite of analog. Sound is represented by numbers that a computer processor puts back together as a recognizable sound.

Gain- Used to set the level of an input device. Getting the most level without any distortion.

Lavaliere- Microphone worn on a shirt, lapel, collar, or sometimes in the hair. Sometimes called a body or lapel mic.

Midi- Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Allows musical instruments to communicate digitally with computers and vice-versa.

Omni Directional- A microphone pick-up pattern that picks up sound from all directions.

Reverb- An effect that adds depth to a recording, taking away a flat sound, almost like a surround feel. At a minimum, almost every recording has some reverb in it.

Volume- Loudness or softness of sound.
