ALL THINGS CONCRETE

WHAT IS CONCRETE Is a mixture or cement (usually Portland cement), aggregate (gravel, and sand), water and chemicals added to the mixture. Concrete is poured as a watery mixture and hardens through a process known as HYDRATION. Through this process, the constituents of concrete bond together to make the most widely man-made substance in the world.

CONCRETE VS. CEMENT A common mistake that people make is thinking that cement and concrete are the same thing. THEY ARE NOT. Cement is a component of concrete. Too entirely use cement instead of adding components to it would be too costly and result in a material that is actually weaker th

What are concretes uses? Footings for gates, fenceposts, decking and foundations. Foundations for homes. Bridges, highways, walkways, power dams. Commercial and industrial builds (hospitals, malls etc.) Bricks Statues, monuments and ornaments

What makes concrete so useful in construction? When reinforced with “reinforcement bars” (rebars), concrete becomes not only very strong but also flexible. When mixing steel with concrete, builders get the best of both worlds, COMPRESSION STRENGTH combined with TENSILE STRENGTH. This means that reinforced concrete is strong enough to support a structure but flexible enough to handle load changes on the structure. Other substances such as carbon fibres can be added to the concrete for added strength and flexibility.
