Interesting Facts! The African Penguin is the only species of penguin breeding on the African continent. The African Penguin is also known as the black- footed penguin. The average height of an African Penguin is 60cm- 70cm From , the African Penguin was vulnerable and from now it is endangered The countries that the African Penguin is native to are… Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, and South Africa.

African Penguin Reproduction- African Penguins are colonial breeders, with pairs returning to the same sight year after year. Gestation- they are in their eggs for about 37 days before they hatch. Other facts about reproduction-African penguins do not have a specific breeding season. They breed all year round. When a pair of African penguins is ready to become parents, they come ashore and build their nest by digging into sand and guano (dried bird droppings.) The female African penguin lays 2 eggs. She and her husband take turns guarding the nest and incubating the eggs. Their babies hatch after about 37 days. Baby African penguins have gray down feathers covering their entire bodies when they first break out of the shells.

African Penguins Diet- they eat schooling fish such as herring, sardines, and anchovies. Food chain- the African Penguin fits in to the food chain by they eat small schooling fish and multiple species eat the African Penguin. The African Penguin is a second level consumer

African Penguin Threats/ human - food shortage: fishing boats can take all of the food, tourists can cause the penguin burrows to collapse. Biotic Factors- other fish, sharks, and humans Abiotic Factors- fishing boats and boat propellers Limiting factors- humans, fishing boats, water pollution, weather, and oil spills
