End-of-Year Final Project 20 th Century- Then and Now Your final project is in the form of an Oral Presentation accompanied by a written document. Presentation can be in the form of a slideshow or on a tri-fold display board. The information on your slides should be brief, bullet points and the written document should provide the content and details to enhance the information on the slides. You will present the slideshow and hand-in the written document for the final grading. Your written document can be organized in paragraphs relating to each individual slide topic, or written as a research paper. It is an individual or a related-topic pair project. (pair=2 limit) Topics must be submitted for approval. In the case of a related-topic pair project, each participant is responsible for their topic and therefore the requirements are the same. You can present your topics woven into one or as Part I-Part II format.

Title slide -introduce your topic by providing a Title that reflects your connection to and understanding of your topic TITLE of your Project Learning Goals–write two: 1.What should we learn/know about your topic: 2. Identify why your topic relates to us today: (it’s value and importance) By ______________ Period ___________

I. Background Knowledge and Historical Context A. Biography of Individual –include: inspiration and influences, and events of the time period that were taking place or Historical Background of the Event-include: historical time period, related events and CAUSES-decisions, decision-makers and actions that were taking place leading up to the event. Add a primary or secondary source to support (1) Citation:

Demonstrate analysis and prediction skills.) Tell us how the A.)World at the time changed because of your topic. (analysis) B.)What might not have occurred if your topic did not exist? (prediction) C.) Add a primary or secondary source to support (2) Citation:

III. Outcomes and Results A.) What were the immediate effects? (suggested evidence: timeline –secondary source) B.) What was the reaction at the time? (suggested evidence: news article, photograph or other-primary source) C.) What data supports the outcome/result? (suggested evidence: statistics in a graph, chart etc…-secondary source) D.) How does your topic relate to other groundbreaking/news individuals/events during the same time period? (show comparisons, make inferences, make relationships) E.) Impact- what impact did your topic have related events, activities or individuals? (how did your topic inspire, create, enhance, justify- demonstrate ability to judge, measure, evaluate, assess, conclude, summarize) F.) Add a primary or secondary source to support (3) Citation:

IV. Pathway to Today and the Future (think local, national and global) A.What effect does this have today? B.What can we learn today and apply to our future? C.Historical Thinking Skill: How has learning more about your topic given you insight into patterns of continuity and change over time? Be specific and relate to a current example. D.Add a primary or secondary source (4) citation

Bibliography Bibliography Example: Markel, Howard. "The Real Story Behind Penicillin." PBS Newshour. PBS, 27 Sept Web. 02 May ____________________________________________________________________________________ In-text citation Example- two different styles of in-text citations: Style (1) The discovery of penicillin changed the way doctors treated patients for infections and diseases. Severely injured limbs may be saved with penicillin rather than being amputated (Markel). Style (2) w/photo and caption This is the penicillin table in a U.S. evacuation hospital in Luxembourg in Photo by Photo12/UIG. The discovery of penicillin changed the way doctors treated patients for infections and diseases. Severely injured limbs may be saved with penicillin instead of being amputated. (Markel) Both in-text examples above are from the same article so it works fine to cite at bottom of slide.
