Celebration Assignments
Windowpane/Collage Paper Version Use a piece of construction paper or small poster board. Find pictures from magazines or online. Pictures should overlap each other. Electronic Version Save all your pictures to your Norway folder before you begin. Go to Curriculum Wiki for middle school S.S. Import the pictures from your Norway folder. You must have at least eight photos in your collage.
Sample of a Collage 1.The kitchen where foods are prepared for the annual food festival of Sweden. 2.The ingredients for the food festival are quite involved and often require a lot of shopping in preparation. 3. Refrigeration of all the dairy items is necessary to prevent spoiling.
Create a Celebration Research and teach the other students at least 2 different aspects from a cultural celebration of your country. Possible examples: dance, song, game, craft

Example of a Page from Children’s Book Hanukkah is the celebration of lights in the Jewish tradition. The Jews celebrate this holiday in December in order to honor God’s miracle in the temple.

Paper Dolls Need to have clothes made separate from the doll (do not color directly on the doll). 4 separate, fairly authentic outfits-not just colored in pants and shirt. You can get the bodies from your teacher or you can design your own.

Scrapbook Sample The dirndl is the traditional woman’s dress, based on German tradition and folklore. The dirndl is a layered garment consisting of a flowing skirt, laced bodice, puffy sleeves and an apron. Historically the apron was for function and the layers were for modesty and to keep warm in the winter.

News Story Use a current events sheet to map out the story. Find a recreation or hobby from your country worth reporting about. Refer to other print news stories for guidance. Must be 1-2 pages in length.

Cultural Feast Authentic dish Research the history of the dish and how it became so popular in your country Share your research with the class Provide one copy of the recipe for reference Be prepared to bring the dish on the feast day.
