Upgrading may cause downtime, data loss, and unexpected recovery costs. You have until July 29 th, 2016 to get the free upgrade. The Windows 10 upgrade is for Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 workstations only. XP and Vista PC’s are not eligible for the free upgrade. Do not upgrade “Stand Alone” LGC software PC’s without first confirming your action with your LGC software rep. Upgrading is voluntary and not covered by any support contract.

Upgrading may extend the life of your PC due to Operating System retirement. Windows Vista retires April 2017 (no upgrade available) Windows 7 retires January Windows 8 retires January Windows 10 retires October 2025…to be continued??? Do Not: attempt to self-upgrade if your PC is part of a “Domain”. upgrade PC’s with less than 4 gig of ram. upgrade TNCIS or CTRIS client PC’s at this time. attempt to upgrade your server with Windows 10.

IMPORTANT: If you are using 3rd party software like TIBRS, Pamett, Sensus, Badger, Watchguard, or any of hundreds of other software packages not supported by LGC, you should verify the compatibility of your 3rd party software package(s) with your particular vendor for that/those package(s).

Backup critical data before pulling the trigger. Do not upgrade just before a payroll or other time sensitive critical event. Do not upgrade all of the computers in your office at once. Stage them a few days apart.

LGC has provided some basic instructions and other needed files. They can be downloaded from our main website.

If you operate a 1 st generation intel NUC computer (LGCube) built during or before August You will need a new network card driver. D34010WYK (NUC5i3RYH) ***Download it before doing the upgrade*** The driver is included in the download package mentioned in the previous slide. For all 3 rd party computers (not built by LGC), check with your manufacturer about compatibility with Windows 10. PC’s with viruses, malware, or other functionality problems. Fix the problems first.

Check your C:\ drive. It needs more than 20 gig of free space. Backup your critical data before you begin. Fully update your PC with “Windows Updates”.

Temporarily disable your antivirus after Windows 10 has downloaded but before the upgrade process begins. Check with the manufacturer of your device for compatibility if you have a printer or scanner more than 5 years old. If you have a 3 rd party computer (Dell, HP,…) check their website for compatibility issues for your specific model PC.

Perform Windows updates until the Windows 10 logo shows up in your systray. Double click the Windows logo to begin the upgrade process. Optionally, download the “Media Creation Tool” from Microsoft and create USB flash drive or DVD installation media. Caution: The upgrade media can wipe out your hard disk and data if used incorrectly. For this reason you are encouraged to use the previously mentioned “Windows Updates” path for upgrading to Windows 10.

Disable your antivirus before clicking “Start the upgrade now” Expect a couple of hours wait while your PC is upgraded. Don’t interrupt the upgrade process once it has started.

Microsoft will want you to sign on to your PC with a “Live ID” to purchase Apps, use Cortana, add files to “OneDrive” and participate in other generally non- work related activities. Currently LGC discourages you from using a live ID as your logon account on the PC. “Live ID’s” can break your connection to the server and prevent you from utilizing several of our software packages to their fullest potential. Participation in “The Store” and purchasing apps will require that you provide a credit card number and “Live ID”. If you insist on using a “Live ID” on an LGC supported PC, you will be solely responsible for recovery of the “Live-ID” account, apps, and all issues related to its use.

When you see “Get going fast”… slow down. Upon first boot choose to “Customize” privacy. Answer no to all options on the first two pages. Answer yes on the third page. Decline the use of “Cortana” (it requires the use of a Live-ID).

Removing unwanted Apps from the “Start” menu Right click on any tile in the start menu Select either “Unpin from Start” or “Uninstall”. Some tiles can only be unpinned

Setting your Default Programs Control Panel, Programs, Default Programs, Set your default programs: Choose Adobe click “Set this program as default” Choose Internet Explorer click “Set this program as default”

To revert to normal search, do the following:

Customize your desktop with changing desktop images, window border colors, and system sounds with Microsoft themes. By default the desktop image changes every 10 minutes. Beware of random “Theme” or “Wallpaper” websites. Steer clear of subscription websites that offer “free” initial services. You can create your own theme with your personal pictures, sounds, and colors.

Windows 10 will allow your “Default” printer to change... If you select to print to a different printer, other than your current default printer, Windows 10 will change the newly selected printer to your default printer. To change this behavior: Click Start, Settings, then Devices. Select “Printers and Scanners”. Change as indicated…

The Edge browser is fine for general browsing but is not as compatible as IE 11 for many websites and applications. To “Pin” a shortcut for Internet Explorer 11 to the taskbar: Right click the start button and select “Run” Type iexplore and click OK. When IE 11 launches, right click the light blue “e” taskbar icon and select “Pin to taskbar”.

So you dislike Windows 10… You have 30 days to uninstall the upgrade There are no guarantees… Click “Search” (next to Start), Type recovery, click on “Recovery Options” and follow the onscreen instructions. Microsoft will provide you an opportunity to “Check for updates” to resolve your issues. Skip the “Windows 10 updates” when offered or you will have to start over. After 30 days there will be no option present in “Recovery options” to resort back to your old OS. Don’t ask, don’t try.

Remove your old operating system backup. Right click Start then select run. Type cleanmgr. Click OK. Select C:\ drive and click OK. Click on “Clean up System files” then OK, select C:\, OK. Wait. Select “Previous Windows Installation(s)” then OK again. This action cannot be undone

LGC will provide upgrade guidance in the form of written (digital) information to be distributed via our website to assist you in making an informed decision. The documentation supplied does not provide any specific guidance for 3rd party PC upgrades. LGC is not liable for or may not be capable of fixing all of your software or hardware issues related to a voluntary upgrade to Windows 10. Scheduling Note: If you are going to schedule a "paid" upgrade with the LGC Technical Services department, please verify 3rd party software compatibility before scheduling the upgrade.

Scenario 1 PC’s built by LGC and supported by a LGC Hardware Support Contract. Any "after the fact" assistance with issues related to self-upgrading your PC to Windows 10 will be provided at our standard hourly rate of $85 per hour. If you want an LGC Technician to perform the upgrade for you, it can be scheduled for a flat rate fee of $125 per each PC or $85 per hour for multiple PC’s whichever is less.

Scenario 2 PC’s built by LGC but not supported by a LGC Hardware Support Contract. or All 3rd party PC's not built by Local Government Corporation. Any "after the fact" assistance with issues related to self-upgrading your PC to Windows 10 will be provided at our standard hourly rate of $85 per hour plus travel time and mileage if travel is involved. If you want an LGC Technician to perform the upgrade for you, it can be scheduled for an hourly rate of $85 per hour plus travel time and mileage.
