Bridges Mr. O’Rourke Technology. What is a Bridge? A structure built to span a valley, road, body of water or other physical obstacle for the purpose.
There are more than 500,000 bridges in the United States!
 The biggest difference is the distance they can cross in a single span.  A modern arch can safely span up to 800 or 1,000 feet.  While a suspension.

TYPES OF BRIDGES By: Blaze McDonald th period

Beam  The Beam Bridge has the most simple build.  It is made of two structures that hold up the beam.  I would use the beam bridge for trains to get to different stations.

Arch  In a arch bridge, weight is carried going outward until it hits the ground to give it more support.  I would use an Arch Bridge for people to walk over rivers in a park.

Suspension  This type of bridge is held by cables that connect from tower to tower.  This pushes the weight from the cables to the tower which will eventually push the weight towards the ground.  I would use a Suspension Bridge for when there is no more flat land and roads need to be built above ground. A suspension bridge can support enough force to hold the bridge up.

Cantilever  Two beams support another beam.  Both beams have to be anchored good to give the third beam good support.  I would use a Cantilever Bridge for when I need to make my way over a lake. The force of the bridge goes into the ground to give more than enough support to hold up the bridge.

Cable Stayed  The cables on the Cable Stayed Bridge move weight along each of the towers.  This helps the towers stay balanced.  I would use a cable stayed bridge for when the weight of every tower is unbalanced. The cables will help transfer weight equally.
