Imaging Project 2016 Tara Mendrysa

Proposal As the newly hired department manager for medical imaging at Faith Hospital, I am happy to announce my proposal on what ways we can improve in our department. Since it consists of diagnostic radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), interventional radiography, nuclear medicine and ultrasound, I am hoping these changes will affect the majority of our staff in a positive way. As of now, our staff feels overworked and the overall morale of the staff is low and it needs to change in order to keep them happy and satisfied within their workplace. As you may know, competition for imaging services is fierce within the Toledo market. Supervisor, Nicholas Martin, VP of Diagnostic Services has asked that I develop a strategy to increase the number of patients seen in our department.

Strategies to increase patient volume Women’s Health Imaging Center Modernizing department design & equipment upgrades Free standing Outpatient Imaging Center Low dose CT Imaging Women’s Health Imaging Center Modernizing department design & equipment upgrades Free standing Outpatient Imaging Center Low dose CT Imaging

Modernizing the Department -4 month period  2 new Radiology Rooms- Philips DR equipment  1 new CT room- GE scanner  Renew MRI scanner  Ergonomics  Aroma/Sound Therapy  MRI TV Goggles  2 new Radiology Rooms- Philips DR equipment  1 new CT room- GE scanner  Renew MRI scanner  Ergonomics  Aroma/Sound Therapy  MRI TV Goggles

Strengths  New equipment working properly & efficiently  Quicker imaging  Comfortable seating for technologists  Relaxing music for patients  Comforting TV goggles to help with claustrophobia  New equipment working properly & efficiently  Quicker imaging  Comfortable seating for technologists  Relaxing music for patients  Comforting TV goggles to help with claustrophobia

Weaknesses  Down time of rooms  Heavier workload during process  Down time of rooms  Heavier workload during process

Threats  Investment in faulty equipment  Not finishing project in time  More work needed if problems come about during deconstruction  Investment in faulty equipment  Not finishing project in time  More work needed if problems come about during deconstruction

Opportunities  Appeal to patients and their families  New equipment that encourages technologists to learn new techniques and enjoy working with them  More comfortable and visually appealing department  Appeal to patients and their families  New equipment that encourages technologists to learn new techniques and enjoy working with them  More comfortable and visually appealing department

Impact to the organization; financial  GE CT scanner budget of $1 million (dicardiology.com)  2 Philips DR radiology rooms $300-$400 thousand (info.blockimaging.com)  Remodel patient chairs- $2000  New chairs/workstations- $10,000  Sound system throughout department- $2000  MRI TV Goggles-$44,000 (cinemavision.biz)  Total cost-$1,458,000  GE CT scanner budget of $1 million (dicardiology.com)  2 Philips DR radiology rooms $300-$400 thousand (info.blockimaging.com)  Remodel patient chairs- $2000  New chairs/workstations- $10,000  Sound system throughout department- $2000  MRI TV Goggles-$44,000 (cinemavision.biz)  Total cost-$1,458,000

Anticipated Complications  Walls need to be re-leaded  Time frame extended  Cost increase  Walls need to be re-leaded  Time frame extended  Cost increase

How this upgrade benefits the community  Higher quality imaging for further patient evaluation  More relaxing and comforting environment while in the hospital  Claustrophobia eased with new MRI goggles so patients are able to complete their scans without motion or interruption  Word of mouth from satisfied patients will increase the number of new patients coming to the department  Higher quality imaging for further patient evaluation  More relaxing and comforting environment while in the hospital  Claustrophobia eased with new MRI goggles so patients are able to complete their scans without motion or interruption  Word of mouth from satisfied patients will increase the number of new patients coming to the department

Conclusion  With a $1.6 million dollar budget to include room for complications this upgrade to radiology will draw new patients in.  I believe the new DR equipment will allow for faster exams and higher quality imaging which will help in patient diagnosis.  The new GE CT scanner will also have improved imaging to further evaluate patient symptoms and concerns  MRI goggles will attract new and existing patients because of their ability to help with claustrophobia  Patient waiting areas will be more relaxing with the new sound system and they will feel more at ease  Remodeled chairs will be more comfortable for patients to wait in  With a $1.6 million dollar budget to include room for complications this upgrade to radiology will draw new patients in.  I believe the new DR equipment will allow for faster exams and higher quality imaging which will help in patient diagnosis.  The new GE CT scanner will also have improved imaging to further evaluate patient symptoms and concerns  MRI goggles will attract new and existing patients because of their ability to help with claustrophobia  Patient waiting areas will be more relaxing with the new sound system and they will feel more at ease  Remodeled chairs will be more comfortable for patients to wait in
