Latent and Sensible heat

 Latent Heat is the heat held in water vapor.  Sensible heat is the dry heat in air as measured in a dry-bulb thermometer.  Humans perspire and humans give off heat.  Therefore humans give of Latent heat.  Baseball players spit (not latent heat)  Humans use mouth wash (not latent heat)

 Is there more to this story than mouth wash!

 Sensible Heat : Heat that increases the DB temperature of the air.  Latent Heat : Heat that is present within increased moisture.

 What does a wine glass, a spoon, a chicken and a egg have in common?

 Answer: Conduction We touch cooler surfaces and heat is transferred

 So let us take a look at a wine class.

 So Lets take a look at a spoon

 So Lets take a look at a Chicken and an egg.

 You see there are for ways (humans like a chicken) transfer heat. Once our blood and water get our surplus heat to the skin (around 88 0 ) we have four ways of passing this heat to the environment: Conduction Convection Radiation Evaporation

 Convection : air passing over the skin.  Radiation: when our skin surface is hotter than other surfaces “seen” but not touched, (heat is radiated to cooler surfaces and visa versa)  Conduction : we touch cooler objects.  Evaporation: removing large quantities of heat.

 Convection  Radiation  Conduction  Evaporation Sensible Heat Latent Heat

 Sensible Heat : Heat that increases the DB temperature of the air.  Latent Heat : Heat that is present within increased moisture.

 So… YES it is true that humans give off Latent Heat …true statement in and of itself. However As humans we also give off Sensible Heat in the form of Convection, Radiation, and Conduction

 We are the ultament heating machine!!!!!
