What is a Civic Responsibility? A basic responsibility of citizenship is to contribute to the common good. Civic responsibilities are fulfilled by choice; they are voluntary This means you do not have to do them if you do not want too Not doing your civic responsibility does not make you a bad American It makes you the person that gets me very upset!!

Civic Responsibilities Register to vote Many people have fought and even died for our right to vote. For hundreds of years in U.S. History, women and African Americans were banned from voting! Many people fought for equal voting rights. The 15 th Amendment to the United States granted the right for African American Males the RIGHT TO VOTE. (Passed Feb. 3 rd 1870) The 19 th Amendment gave women the RIGHT TO VOTE. (Passed Aug. 18 th, 1920) The Voting Rights Act of 1965 made it illegal to have people pass a test before they could vote.

Civic Responsibilities Run for and hold elective office Such as President, Senator, or Representative (Federal Level) Such as Governor, State Senator, or State Delegate (State Level) Such as a City Mayor, County Manager, City Council, or County Board of Supervisors (Local level, City or County) There are also school boards, etc.
