Buddhist Monks Buddhist monks live in a large building known as a monastery. There are Buddhist monasteries all over the world including the UK. Some Buddhists will become a monk for a short time to help them learn more about their religion. Some Buddhists remain monks their whole life. When a Buddhist becomes a monk they will have their head and beard shaven and they will wear orange robes.

When a person becomes a monk they give up all their personal possessions and the only things they are able to own are: Alms bowl (for charity donations) Razor Needle Toothpick Robe Shoes These are seen as life's essential items. Imagine you were becoming a Buddhist monk. What three items would you miss the most and why?
