Assignment: Forest Biomes Bubble Map
 Constant warmth and rainfall provides the home to most of the species on Earth.  > 70% of all terrestrial species  Question:  How does the structure.
Biomes A major biological community that occurs over a large area of land is called a biome. Seven major biomes cover most of the Earth’s land surface.

I. Coniferous Forests A. Climate/defintion 1. Coniferous means cone-bearing do coniferous forests are made of cone- bearing trees 2. Have needle like.
Biome Research By Evan A. Carr.  Location: North America, Europe, and Asia.  Description: Very cool all year long. Many types of trees.  Soil type:
Temperate Deciduous Forest. Temperate Deciduous Forest Location and Climate The mid-latitude deciduous forest biome is located between the polar regions.
TYPES OF FOREST ECOSYSTEM. DECIDOUS FOREST Decidous forest: are dominated by Decidous trees. These trees shed their leaves each year and re grow them.

The Biome Taiga.
Climate Summers are warm Winters are cold Gets 75 centimeters of rain every year (that’s over 2 feet of rain!) What is special about deciduous trees?
By Becky Clark. Deciduous forests have both a warm and a cold season evenly distributed throughout the year. Much of the human population lives in this.

Chapter 9 Forest Biomes 9.1 Coniferous Forests The summers are warm and the winters are long, cold and dry. Coniferous----cone-bearing Conifers bear cones and long, thin leaves or needles which help the trees conserve water. Conifers loose and replace their leaves slowly throughout the year. Ex. Pine, hemlock, fir, spruce, and cedar. Animals----mice, squirrels, moose, elk, beaver.

– 9.2 Deciduous Forests Deciduous-loose their leaves When? Growing season lasts 6 months producing and storing large amounts of food. In autumn the tree sheds its leaves and becomes dormant. Photosynthesis stops and the tree makes no more food. In the spring the tree grows new leaves. Ex. Maple Oak, beech, ash, hickory and birch. – 3 layers of the forest » Canopy » Understory » Humus

– 9.3 Rain Forests Constant warmth and abundant rain. The most diverse biome on Earth. Available soil nutrients are in the top of the soil. Trees have buttresses for support because roots do not support well. Diversity of rainforest plants and a wide diversity of habitats. Rain forests are being destroyed because humans need space and wood.
