Vivitrol (Naltrexone) Treatment for opioid addiction

Vivitrol (naltrexone) Strong antagonist (blocker) Prevents any abuse or overdose Lasts for 1 month after each injection. Controls impulsive cravings.

Vivitrol in a patient Must go through detox. Withdrawal can be severe or mild depending on how much the patient had been using and how long. Withdrawal can last for days or months depending on how long the patient has been using. Must be at least 2-10 days depending on the opioid abused last. Can be made more comfortable with medication by your doctor.

Vivitrol in a patient Must go through detox. Goal: to block use during time where relapse is most likely. All medication supervised by doctor. Allow receptor numbers to decrease more rapidly.
