NPower / Proprietary and Confidential / Not for Distribution2 Click to edit Master text styles  Second level  Third level  Fourth level NPower / Proprietary and Confidential / Not for Distribution2 Program Overview  NPower's skilled volunteer program, The Community Corps (TCC), aims to increase the number of underserved high school students who have an opportunity to develop much- needed professional skills by creating a tech professional career readiness program.  In April 2016, The Community Corps (TCC) will launch a Professional Skills Development pilot to students pursuing A+ certification and/or technology career education in partnership with NYC CTE High Schools and funded by a generous grant from the Cisco Foundation.  Over the course of this pilot, skilled volunteers will help high school Juniors develop greater competence with:  Communication & Resume review  Mock Interviewing & Competency-Based Interviewing  Transitioning to Business settings (vs. school) and Culture  Leadership and Effective Teaming  Self-advocacy and the Importance of Job Mentors (peer and other) Technology Career Readiness Program Pilot

NPower / Proprietary and Confidential / Not for Distribution3 Click to edit Master text styles  Second level  Third level  Fourth level NPower / Proprietary and Confidential / Not for Distribution3 Volunteer Overview  TCC is seeking volunteers to serve as workshop facilitators to high school juniors as they plan for careers or future education in the STEM.  Volunteers will be supported by TCC staff and given guided curriculum to follow. They will have the chance to share their insight and experience to support young adults.  A Lead facilitator(s) will take the group through the curriculum at the beginning of each session.  Volunteers will work with students pursuing A+ certification and careers in technology to teach them the career-readiness (aka “soft”) skills that are critical to succeeding in office environments and effectively supporting customers. Volunteer Roles, Responsibilities, and Commitments Time Commitment: 1.5 hour weekly over the course of a 9-week program 14 Hour MAX time commitment Attend an NPower/TCC-lead volunteer training and occasional check-ins (by phone) Complete a background check and fingerprinting (dependent on DOE and school rules - GoPass) Responsibilities: Help deliver pre-designed programming on career readiness to young adults Help young adults understand how careers and professional environments work Provide insight and experience from your career and job experiences Rely on DOE Teacher present at each session to manage student behavior and be your partner

No specific technical knowledge is required, but volunteers should have familiarity working with the technology division of their company.  Volunteers should be responsible and committed, promising to attend 80% of the activities. Consistency is key!  Coaches assume different roles during the course of a relationship (mentors, delegators, role models, cheerleaders, policy enforcers, advocates, and friends) and share some basic qualities:  A sincere desire to be involved with a young person  Respect for young people  Active listening skills  Empathy  Ability to see solutions and opportunities  Flexibility What Makes a Good Coach?
