Audience, purpose, tone/style Ask yourself: Who am I communicating with? What is my relationship to the recipient/listener? Why am I communicating? teacher professor job application etc. be formal?

Course Objectives Upon completion of the course, students will: i.be able to write s, letters, reports, and a CV (resume) & cover letter ii. understand and be able to correctly apply the writing conventions, punctuation, style, and register that are required for professional writing.

Participation (portfolio) You will be asked to build a portfolio of work (8 pieces of writing) Your portfolio will contribute to your participation score If your portfolio is complete, and it is obvious to the teacher that you have fully applied yourself then your participation score will be higher
