What is the picture about? Greenhouse Effect

The Greenhouse Effect Unit:9,Lesson:3

By the end of the lesson,SS will be able to- 1)learn related vocabularies. 2)read and understand text. 3)talk about climate and environment. 4)ask and answer questions. 5)use comparative degree. 6)write a paragraph about ‘Greenhouse Effect”. Learning Outcomes

Read the text: A greenhouse is a house made of glass. It has glass walls and a glass roof.

People grow……. ….vegetables and flowers and other plants in them.A greenhouse stays warm inside, even during winter. During the daylight hours,a greenhouse gets warmer and stays pretty warm at night too. This is because the heat received from the sun is trapped inside the greenhouse by the glass.

The Earth is also like a greenhouse.During the day Earth’s surface warms up in the sunlight. At night, the surface cools releasing the heat into the air.

But some of the heat is trapped by gases like…. …carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. These gases, called greenhouse gases, work like the glass walls and the roofs and keep the Earth warm. This is called global warming and it is making the Earth a dangerous planet.

Unfortunately,we are making the earth too hot.We are using… …oil, gas and coal for running cars, buses, trains, planes, power stations and so on.This fuels have carbon in them. This carbon and other gases trap the heat in the atmosphere and do not allow the earth to cool down.As a result, the Earth gets hotter.

Pair Work Change the underlined words to talk about the increasing threats of global warming. One is done for you. 1.A:The sun is hot. B:The sun is becoming hotter. 2.A: The effects of global warming will be bad. 3.A:The sun keeps the Earth warm during day time. 4.A:The cyclones are powerful now. 5.A:Our environment is already polluted. 6.A:Summer comes early due to season shift.

EVALUATION Answer the following questions: 1)What is a greenhouse? 2)How does greenhouse work? 3)Which gas is mainly responsible for greenhouse effect? 4)How is the Earth’s atmosphere similar to a greenhouse? 5)What does “Global warming” mean?

Grammar point Present Continuous Tense Example:We are making the Earth too hot. Structure: Sub + am/is/are + Verb + ing + Ob. + Ex.

Home Task Write a paragraph about “Greenhouse Effe ct”.
