Central High School Student Attendance and Tardy Information

90% Attendance Rule, TEA form for Driving  According to the state of Texas, students must be present 90% of the time in a class to receive credit for the course. Non- attendance is the #1 reason that students are unsuccessful in their classes.  A student will be denied credit for a class when they have accumulated 10 absences in 1 st or 5 th period and a total of 5 absences in either 2A/B, 3A/B and 4A/B periods.  If absents continue then the student and parent will be sent to Truancy court.  Tutorials must be completed to regain attendance credit. This information may be obtained with the student’s Assistant Principal.  A student will not receive a TEA form, required for a Texas driver's permit/license, if the student has excessive absences. TEA forms may be requested in the front office and require 24 hours notice for pick up.

Student Attendance Codes  Absence codes for students:  PRN – Parent note or parent phone call on file  DRN – Doctors Note  DRA- Health Care Appointment  EXT – Extended Tardy of 10 minutes or more to class (this will cause a discipline referral)  ABS – Student absent with no note or phone call from parent (this will cause a discipline referral)  TRU- Truancy, student misses school/class without parent permission (this will cause a discipline referral)  TDY- Tardy to class (this will cause a discipline referral)  All notes for absents must be turned in within 5 school days or absent will be coded as an ABS.

Absents that will cause Discipline Any type of absence listed below will be considered an unexcused absence (ABS). Examples of unexcused absences (ABS) include, but are not limited to, class cuts, car trouble, over sleeping, personal business, vacation, etc ABS – Absent TRU- Truant EXT- Extended tardy, late to call more than 10 minutes

Tardies  There are no excused type of tardies.  A student has 10 tardies per 6 weeks for all classes. The one exception to the 10 tardy rule is if a student has accumulated 6 tardies or more to a specific class period then the discipline will be applied to attempt to change the behavior.

Tardy Discipline  Consequences for tardies  11 th tardy: 2 Hour Saturday School  12 th Tardy – 4 Hour Saturday School  13 th Tardy or more – “OCS” Off Campus Suspension  Please contact your grade level Principal for more info if need be 9 th Carol Rankin th Jamie Yates th Timothy Wilkerson th Scott Goodwin
