Currency & Costs Currency and Exchange Rate Cape Verdean escudo (Esc. / CVE). Written as 110$265 or 110,265 It is not possible to purchase CVE in the UK. Before returning home use all your escudos or convert them back to €. There is a fixed Euro to ECV exchange rate (€1 = 110$265, Esc.1 = €0.01) The hotel will charge a 5%.commission (€1 = 104$250 escudos) €s are generally accepted, €1 = 100 escudos, change will be in escudos. Exchange rate on 17 Jul 2015 was 1.00 GBP = CVE. Hotel Locations The town centre is slightly off the route to the airport. Beaches are a few minutes walk off the top and bottom of this photo. We are recommended not to walk to the area off the left of the map (though there are a couple of restaurants in that area).

Hotel facilities Two Conference Rooms – Main Jardim Room (Main Flying Ops room ): Internet access via dedicated internet ink (FAAM network). Skype phones. FAAM IT network/shared drive – Shared drive with downloaded forecast products – Desk space for people (depending on layout, Area 70 m2 – Second ‘noisy’ Honório Room : No FAAM network but hotel WiFi available. General working area, ad hoc meetings etc. Access to FAAM network only if FAAM wi-fi signal is strong enough. Desk space for up to 30 people (depending on layout, Area 100 m2) – Wifi throughout hotel Jardim Room (Main Flying Ops room ) ‘noisy’ Honório Room

Transport Work – Airport pick up/drop off on arrival/departure Hotel bus and hire cars – Hire cars Pick up and drop off at airport Bring your driving licence and, if possible, an International Driving Licence (available from a main Post Office) New rules mean you need to request a personal code from the DVLA up to 21 days before picking up a car either in the UK or abroad. Airport Office (Maintenance Training Classroom) The TACV Maintenance Training Classroom has been booked for the duration of the aircraft stay (€1000). It should provide somewhere comfortable for ground and pre/post fliers to base themselves. It could be used to work on instruments. Internet & skype should be available.

Working at the Airport Access is either through engineering or side road. Both have a security arch & search. High Viz jackets, fastened, must be worn on the ramp. Stay on marked walkways/within aircraft footprint. If other aircraft moving either stay on a/c or keep clear. Pre/Post Flight equipment – we will collect the equipment to have it transported on a trolley to the aircraft with the preflighter. Always carry airport & DFL passes and Passport! Conform to normal airport security procedures (no liquids, sharp items etc.) Be aware of F.O.D. – do not drop rubbish on ramp – if you see any, pick it up and put in the F.O.D. bins. Comms Mobile Phones – Same system as UK (GSM 900 / 1800 MHz) – FAAM will issue local SIM cards and loan phones (Charlie/Doug) – FAAM staff remember to bring your FAAM mobile phone. – Met Office flyers will receive an OBR loan mobile phone. (Rob/Jeff) – Skype phone will be available in conference room. – FAAM will issue local mobile phone sim card, most for local use ONLY. Use Skype phone for overseas contacts. Some International SIMS will be available. – If you are planning to use your own mobile phone there, make sure it is compatible with (GSM 900 / 1800 MHz) and unlocked. UK roaming is very expensive from Cape Verde. Other Comms – BGANS ground satellite systems and Iridium phone are available on request. – One of our Skype phone may be available at airport?

Detachment Health & Safety H&S Committee – FAAM Detachment Manager – Directflight Detachment Manager – PI If you are concerned – Tell somebody ASAP – Raise issues at post-flight De-briefs or daily meetings Health and welbeing – There is a low risk of Malaria being present on Santiago Island between Aug- Nov. Anti-malaria tablets aren’t usually recommended but protection against mosquito bites is advised - cover arms and legs in the morning/evening, use mosquito repellent, use an insecticide vaporiser in your room. – It is easy to become dehydrated especially while working at the airport. Always carry a bottle of water with you. – Water will be provided for working on the aircraft. – The tides and currents around the islands are very strong, be cautious if you plan to go swimming. – August is typically a rainy month, be prepared for tropical downpours

Health & Safety Precautions Be prepared – The aircraft will be parked outside on non-flying days. The main risk is heat – Stay in air conditioned areas doors and travel by car where possible – Bring cool and waterproof (just in case) clothing – When outdoors use sun screen and hats to keep skin protected – Take sufficient rest breaks and days off. Don’t fly or drive if unwell or overtired – Be mindful about your own wellbeing and that of your colleagues. If you are concerned, tell someone. – If you feel you are being overworked, tell someone. Be aware – Crime is on the increase in CV, particularly petty theft, snatch-and-grab theft, often children or street vendors are involved. – More violent crime is also on the rise including muggings, particularly after dark. – Avoid walking alone in the dark – Be vigilant around the central Plato area of Praia. – Keep valuables out of sight e.g. camera, wallet – Don’t go out alone near the hotel. Let people know where you are going and when you expect to return.

Health & Safety - Driving Be prepared – In Cape Verde, traffic moves on the right side of the road and at intersections the vehicle on the right has right of way. – Seatbelts must be worn at all times.. – Third-party insurance is required. The insurance disk must be clearly displayed on the vehicle’s windscreen. – Rental cars are not allowed to travel to other islands.

Overnight Trips  Directflight/airport pass  Passport  SMALL bag with overnight clothing for a couple of nights (Your main case and most of its contents can be left in your room at the hotel but take a small bag for your subset of clothing for the short trips as they will go in the hold. There is not enough space for everybody to carry big laptop bags which also contain clothing into the cabin.) One trip to the Canary Islands is anticipated. A refuel at Dakar is also a possibility. Please make sure you have the following ready:
