SATS Week During SATS week, the school will provide a breakfast at 8am for each child to help them to settle before sitting their exams. Early nights!

Sample questions - Maths Arithmetic paper 30 minutes to answer 36 questions Reasoning papers Two papers, taking 40 minutes each.

Sample questions - English SPAG paper Short answer questions, 45 minutes. Answers must be correctly spelled. Reading paper Longer questions on three separate texts, one hour.

Lesson expectations By Year 6, children are expected to be writing in clear, joined handwriting. Small group support for those who struggle with this. Children need to be able to sustain this for at least 2 sides of A4 in a lesson to cope well with the requirements of SATS and secondary school. Children will need to use spelling patterns that they have learned as well as familiar words from reading to support good spelling.

Lesson expectations The work done in maths moves from knowing what to do to applying in problem solving and reasoning. To ensure that they don’t fall behind, unfinished tasks will be sent home for children to complete or completed during lunchtimes. Children have ‘traffic light’ cubes on desks to show when they are struggling so that they can continue to try. Mrs Curtiss and Mrs Taylor are providing additional small- group support to help children address particular needs.

Homework Homework supports learning in class, either through practising what we’ve learned or introducing new learning. Your children have homework diaries to record their tasks, and may also have work to complete if not done in the lesson. If you are unsure about how your child needs to complete a piece of homework, please come and speak to me or send a message via the office. Reading records

Mock SATS The children have already completed the sample maths papers and SPAG paper. They all coped well with the expectations of an exam. More of an idea about what to expect.
