Forms of Poetry
Narrative Poem A narrative poem tells a story in verse. A verse is an ordered arrangement of lines. A narrative poem has a plot and characters just like a story does.
Lyric Poetry Expresses thoughts and feelings and often seems to have a musical quality
Concrete Poetry Concrete poems are shaped to look like the subject of the poem. The words or lines are arranged to create a picture on the page. A the words of a concrete poem about a mountain would actually be shaped like a mountain.
Haiku Japanese poetry Has three lines First and third lines each have five syllables Second line has seven syllables Usually about nature
Limerick Five lines Each line rhymes Is humorous Has a specific rhythm and rhyme scheme
